WrestleMania Match Possibly Off, Amazon Purchasing WWE Content?

WrestleMania Match Possibly Off

Right now, only one match has been confirmed for WrestleMania 36 and that is the WWE Championship. As for the Universal Championship, the plan for months has been Roman Reigns battling “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt for the gold.

That match could be changing after what happened on SmackDown. On Friday, we learned Goldberg will challenge Wyatt for the title at Super ShowDown from Saudi Arabia later this month. During the Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer discussed how WWE might go with Reigns vs. Goldberg for the marquee value.

“You gotta protect [Goldberg] and he’s gotta be Bill Goldberg,” said Meltzer. “If you start f—ing with him, then he’s not gonna mean anything. The reality is that for WrestleMania, the marquee value at WrestleMania even as much as they’ve spent all year pushing The Fiend as this unstoppable monster the fact is that Roman Reigns vs Goldberg or The Fiend vs Roman Reigns that on the marquee for WrestleMania Roman Reigns and Bill Goldberg will have more fan interest.”

Since Wyatt returned to WWE over the summer with “The Fiend” gimmick, he has been unstoppable. Anyone put in his path has lost a one-sided battle. Typically, Goldberg is known for his quick wins.

Last year, Goldberg was embarrassed during Crown Jewel’s debacle with the Undertaker. But, he was able to return at SummerSlam and squash Dolph Ziggler.

With WrestleMania 36 less than 60 days away, WWE will need to start finalizing their top matches. With Reigns, Goldberg and Wyatt all being popular names, we should have a clear idea of their WrestleMania roles by the conclusion of Super ShowDown.

Amazon Purchasing WWE Content?

WWE released the most recent quarter report, which featured comments from Vince McMahon. In the report, McMahon stated that the WWE has several streaming services interested in their content.

While McMahon did name any particular streaming service, he noted that they were looking at “major” content. This led to Sporting News’ Steven Muehlhausen brining Amazon into the fold.

With McMahon using the word “major,” it seems like he is not talking about all of WWE’s material. Instead, he is likely referencing the Royal Rumble, WrestleMania, SummerSlam and Survivor Series.

Right now, Vince is very occupied. The XFL relaunched over the weekend following a 20 year absense. Also, WWE creative is busy getting ready for WrestleMania 36. Plus, WWE did let go of their two co-presidents last week. That last move caused WWE stock to plummet.

There has been talk about changing the WWE Network and that might now involve brining in another company. Seeing how much Amazon is worth, content from the WWE Network should increase their value.
