NXT UK Status Update

WWE Buying Indy Promotions

WWE Buying Indy Promotions

It took WWE longer than they hoped to get NXT UK running as the official launch date was December 2016. Now, they are producing weekly episodes on the WWE Network and have their own Takeover shows.

They are not near the level of NXT, who have been around for much longer. But, WWE is looking to expand their UK brand.

In the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, they went into further details about WWE ‘s plans. The idea is for Indy promotions in England to continue producing shows and cultivating talent. They may or may not get financial support from WWE. A big sticking point is that WWE has the right to purchase these companies if they see fit.

The WON stated, “the reality is WWE is working with companies that have basically agreed to work with WWE and give WWE the rights to purchase those companies if they desire to do so down the line.”

WWE has allowed NXT talent to work for Indy promotions in the United States such as EVOLVE. It has allowed both WWE and the Indy companies to work together for the better of the pro wrestling business.

You never know, but we could see some UK Indy promotions airing on the WWE Network as part of the deal. As of now, NXT UK airs on the WWE Network every Wednesday.

Loser Eats Dog Food Matches Advertised

On SmackDown, the Roman Reigns – Baron Corbin (also known as King Corbin) feud continued. It has been brewing since Survivor Series and continued at TLC, with Corbin getting the win.

Now, WWE is promoting a pair of Loser Eats Dog Food Matches for SmackDown events. The February 7 show from The SAP Center and February 14 show at the Rogers Arena both have the gimmick match advertised.

To no surprise, the participants involve Reigns and Corbin. The entire dog food angle started when Dolph Ziggler and Corbin chained Reigns to the ringside post. Then, they preceded to cover him in dog food.

There is no word if WWE will air the matches on TV or as dark matches for the live crowd. Considering how much WWE loved the spot, do not be surprised if it airs on TV. There is always the chance that one match features Ziggler and other involves Reigns.
