CM Punk

CM Punk is a hot commodity for both AEW and the WWE. After all, he has a huge following and the brand that manages to snag him is bound to get a nice influx of viewers. While we thought the bidding war was over, it seems a new offer has come from the WWE.

A CM Punk Return With An Unexpected Twist

There is no doubt that WWE fans want to see CM Punk in the ring again. However, if the rumors are true, then the WWE offer is far different than what you would expect.

It is claimed that straight edge superstar is looking for a broadcasting deal with Fox. So, if he were to return, it could be in the capacity of an announcer or a backstage interviewer.

Recently, Punk revealed that there would be a conversation with the WWE on Wednesday, during which his role would be discussed. Whether or not that means he has signed with the WWE already is unclear.

AEW Out Of The Running Completely?

CM Punk

At the moment, it seems like AEW is making no additional effort to acquire Punk. After all, CM Punk has made this statement himself during an interview with Marc Ramandi for ESPN.

“No. I know they like to talk about me a lot. If I text Matt Jackson, ‘Hey, have a great show tonight,’ which I did when they had their big show in Vegas, that somehow turns into Tony Khan telling people he has a great relationship with me. I’ve said in the past I’ve talked to them, but nothing ever came of anything.”

It is no secret that the WWE needs a way to boost their ratings on SmackDown, especially since it starts its run on Fox soon. Acquiring Punk for SmackDown would be a huge win. Some of his followers and fans that have left the WWE are bound to tune in if he returns. Even those who are not that fond of CM Punk would tune in. He’s is simply a character that draws a lot of interest.

Will It Even Work?

CM Punk Distancing Himself

Even though the straight edge superstar might do well as a co-host of a talk show or as an announcer, let’s be brutally honest here. Fans want to see CM Punk in a wrestling capacity. After all, this is what made him the icon he is today. I am not a big fan of him myself, but there is no denying that the man has heaps of talent as a wrestler.

At the end of the day, it could be the case that the straight edge superstar does not want to wrestle anymore and is looking for something a little “quieter.” He is getting older after all,  but certainly not too old to wrestle. While I have no doubt that the acquisition of CM Punk would benefit the WWE greatly. Acquiring him as a wrestler would put up the ratings a lot more than as an announcer or a co-host of some show.
