– Chris Jericho was looking to once again become a champion in New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) as he challenged IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada. In the end, Jericho failed to win the title. The final sequence saw him miss the Judas effect and then the codebreaker was countered into the wining pinfall for Okada.
After the match, Jericho used a chair; which saw him place it around the neck of Okada and toss him into the ring post. He went to power bomb Okada through a table before Hiroshi Tanahashi left the commentary table to make the save. The show concluded with Jericho talking trash to the fans and Tanahashi.
Seeing how Jericho’s All Elite Wresting deal allowed him to work for NJPW, there is a decent chance he returns to battle Tanahashi. Maybe, Jericho finds a tag partner to challenge Okada & Tanahashi.
Speaking of NJPW Domination, Kenta (known as Hideo Itami in WWE) returned. He declared his intentions to enter the G1 Climax Tournament. Jon Moxley also did the same, the tournament is already stacked this year. Kenta was released from WWE in February of this year after not finding much success and suffering several injuries.
Below are highlights from Jericho vs. Okada.
– During the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer confirmed that Goldberg did indeed suffer a concussion. It happened early in his match against Undertaker at Super ShowDown.
After the concussion, the match quickly went downhill. There were several botches, including the final sequence. Many fans online berated the match.
