So here’s the thing: Ben Askren is a wrestler quite unlike every other wrestler in mixed martial arts. He moves differently, and more importantly, he pressures differently, which leaves opponents completely out of sorts.
He was also one of Bellator’s first champs, and since then totally dominated the Asian MMA scene.
On the flipside, dominating the Asian MMA scene is about as much of an accomplishment as dominating the West African MMA scene, or the Antarctic MMA scene. Which begs the question: when he steps into the Octagon for the first time on Saturday, facing off against Robbie Lawler at UFC 235, is Askren going to dominate with his wrestling? Or is Lawler going to punch his head clean off?
Ponder that while you watch this hype vid.
