It’s a fair statement to say that parents are often confused by their children, especially during the teen years and beyond. But there is clueless and then there is Meghan Markle’s father, who is seemingly bound and determined to force his daughter to keep him at arm’s length as he’s once again making appearances on television to talk about his (non) relationship with his royal progeny.

The British Royal Family are notoriously hush-lipped about the interpersonal relationships amongst their relatives. Prince Harry’s mother, Diana, scandalized Buckingham Palace in the ’80s and ’90s by daring to be interviewed about how her life was as a royal. But while Meghan has been playing the part of a demure Windsor, her ostracized family — outside of her mother — have placed themselves in front of the camera whenever possible.

In this latest interview on Good Morning Britain with Piers Morgan — who is also confused about why the duchess would unfriend him — Thomas Markle laments on television that he’s tried to reach out to her and doesn’t know why she won’t contact him.
“Well, I’m very disappointed by it. I’m not sure why it’s happening and I’m waiting,” Thomas Markle said. “I’m reaching out I’ve been trying to reach out for several weeks every day I try to text her I just haven’t received any comment back.”
I think it’s pretty safe to say that once again going on British television to discuss personal family matters is likely the biggest reason Markle isn’t in contact.
The interview goes on like a court hearing as Piers Morgan’s co-host, Susanna Reid, points out that there has been contact between the Duchess and her father, but it’s all been from his side.
If Thomas Markle was really so interested in having a relationship with his daughter, he would stop taking interviews and selling access. He has proven time and again he — and the rest of the Markle clan — have no interest in doing that.
To be fair, Meghan Markle was an actress and clearly loved and thrived on attention when she was coming up in Hollywood, so perhaps she knows a little too well what her family is seeking by being related to her.
The Markle family’s motivations aren’t difficult to suss out. It would just be nice if they would get a clue — Piers Morgan, as well — and realize that by talking about Meghan in public guarantees that they won’t be hearing from her or her office at Kensington Palace any time soon.
