Anyone who has ever gone to Chick-fil-A knows the employees never say “You’re welcome.” Instead, this polite group of people always say, “My pleasure!” There is a simple reason for this and it speaks volumes about the company and its founder Truett Cathy.

Chick-fil-A is known not only for great food but also for terrific customer service. The pleasant staff always goes the extra mile to be polite and kind. That’s because they do things very differently than other fast food restaurants. You don’t feel rushed at Chick-fil-A, you feel as though you are almost in a sit-down family restaurant even though everything is done at a fast pace. They also go out of their way to be kind to less fortunate people.

Mr. Cathy wanted to provide his customers with exceptional service so they would always return. He searched for ways to improve the Chick-fil-A experience. Once, at the Ritz Carlton, Cathy’s “thank you” was met with “my pleasure.” He loved it so much, he had to incorporate it into Chick-fil-A culture.

“My pleasure” sounds much more encouraging and deliberate than you’re welcome. It leaves an impression that will make you want to return and now it is very much known as something you always hear at any Chick-fil-A you visit around the country.
