chris pratt murph challenge

Memorial Day is when we honor and remember those who lost their lives serving our country. Actors Chris Pratt and John Krasinski honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice and they are challenging others to do the same.

The actors participated in the Murph Challenge. It was started to honor late United States Navy SEAL officer Michael P. Murphy who earned the U.S. Medal of Freedom. Murphy earned the country’s highest military honor while serving in Afghanistan. He was killed in action on June 28, 2005, during Operation Red Wings. Marcus Luttrell wrote about this devastating mission in “Lone Survivor.” It was one of the worst days in Special Ops history.

The Murph Challenge is a strenuous workout. It’s tough for a reason. Since Navy Seals are so tough, the workout should be as well. To complete it, you must finish a 1-mile run, 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, 300 air squats and another 1-mile run while wearing a 20-lb. body vest. This challenge raises money for LT. Michael P. Murphy Memorial Scholarship Foundation.

Pratt and Krasinski used their star power to encourage others to honor Michael Murphy and others who lost their lives for our freedoms. It’s not often that Hollywood’s elite stars promote members of our military or honor those who gave their lives.

Chris Pratt explained to his Instagram followers why it’s important for him to do the Murph Challenge on Memorial Day. “It’s a day like today when we commemorate those fallen heroes and say thanks for all you do to make our dreams come true,” Pratt said in the Instagram video below.

“So today, whether you do a Murph Challenge or just take some time to say thank you and remember, remember that’s what today is all about,” Krasinski added in an Instagram video he also posted encouraging others to remember what Memorial Day really means.

Participants can register at TheMurphChallenge.com. All submitted times are listed on the website. The top 5 men and 5 women will be honored for their achievements. The challenge says “it is a tradition that helps push us, humble us, and dedicate a bit of pain and sweat to honor a man who gave everything he had.”

Share this to help remember Lt. Murphy for making the ultimate sacrifice!
