This Zoo Is Facing Charges – Do You Understand Why?

A Canadian zoo is in hot water after taking a bear out for ice cream. The private zoo decided to take an orphan Kodiak bear named Berkley out to Dairy Queen for a frosty treat. They probably could have gotten away with it except for the fact that they posted a video of the hilarious outing on Facebook.

Discovery Wildlife Park posted the video on its Facebook to teach people not to leave food outside of their cars. The video points out that bears can smell 2100 times better than the average human. If someone tosses an ice cream cone outside of the car, a bear can smell that 20 miles upwind. These facts are stated as the Dairy Queen manager feeds the orphaned bear ice cream through the drive-thru window. The bear did not enter the restaurant.

Now, the private zoo is facing charges under Alberta’s Wildlife Act for failing to inform authorities that the bear would be leaving the property. This is all pretty hilarious when you consider there are plenty of bears running around Canada outside of the zoo.

“Under the terms and conditions of the zoo’s permit, the charges are directly related to the alleged failure of the park to notify the provincial government prior to the bear leaving the zoo,” Alberta Fish and Wildlife said.

Watch the video below to see if you understand the outrage.

Seems pretty harmless and rather hilarious to me. At least the attention the video is getting is helping people learn these important facts about bears.

Doug Bos, the owner of Discovery Wildlife Park, will plead guilty to the charges. He is to send an email to authorities everytime he takes an animal off the property and he forgot to. Even if this seems ridiculous, the man is at least taking responsibility for accidentally breaking the law. He didn’t use Hillary’s email excuse and say that he didn’t know he was breaking the law.

Share this if you would laugh seeing a bear at the drive-thru window!
