“The Carol Burnett Show” gave us a window into some hilarious situations. You never knew what topics the skits would cover on the hit comedy show, but you did know that you were going to laugh.
Remarriage can prove to be an awkward situation in many cases. Carol Burnett upped this factor in a skit with a couple marrying their best friends’ exes. Even on the most amicable of terms, this can be a dicey situation. True to the hilarious nature of the show, this skit did not disappoint.
Lyle Waggoner was marrying Carol Burnett, who was Harvey Korman’s ex-wife in this skit. Lyle asked Harvey to be his best man. To make things even weirder, Carol asked Vicki Lawrence, Lyle’s ex-wife, to be the Maid of Honor. The two formerly married couples were good friends, now in a sticky situation.
The four had a meeting to discuss the wedding, but things didn’t go as planned. As the couples took some trips down memory lane, the exes appeared to rekindle their feelings for each other. This left the bride and groom jealous as each flirted with their former spouses as they discussed the good times.
As you can imagine, flirting with other people isn’t a great way to start a new marriage and things fell to pieces for the engaged couple quickly in the 8-minute skit below! Just wait for the silly question Carol Burnett asks at the end.
Harvey Korman left empty-handed. I was expecting Carol and Harvey to get their spark back. That didn’t happen!
From 1967 to 1978, Americans tuned in to watch “The Carol Burnett Show.” The hit program was a family favorite that provided us with countless laughs to end our day. There aren’t any shows on television like this one!
