17 “Bad” Movies That Deserve a Second Chance

The Village (2004)

M. Night Shyamalan got his career off to an almost impossibly great start. How could someone follow The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable? He wrote and directed this atmospheric thriller that was marketed as a monster movie, but is really so much more than that.

The Village is really about the extreme lengths people go to in order to protect people they love. The rustic village of Covington is a small town in rural Pennsylvania that lives in fear of terrible creatures in the woods. They are allowed to live in peace as long as they agree with the monsters that they will never cross the village’s borders. Bryce Dallas Howard is amazing in this visually stunning film with a lovely soundtrack and charming story that won’t necessarily give you a jump scare. If you know that it won’t give you nightmares, then The Village is a really good film worth another shot.
