A New Glimpse into Season 2

It’s a new year at Nevermore, and many woes are in store for Wednesday.

From higher stakes, friends in danger, and new family dynamics, there is a lot to unpack in her world. “Wednesday definitely has to navigate a lot of relationships in Season 2…” comments co-creator Miles Millar.

“She discovers that those relationships are treacherous and it’s not easygoing. We really wanted to find some new obstacles for Wednesday. She thinks she has it all under control, and discovers that human interaction isn’t as easy as she thought.”

New Stakes and Visions

Almost immediately in the trailer, we learn that Wednesday’s best friend and roommate, Enid Sinclair, will die, and Wednesday is somehow responsible. “Enid dies, and it’s all my fault,” she says.

With Enid’s fate on the line, Wednesday will race against the clock to solve another mystery, and it seems to be connected to her past. “Secrets are the bedrock of the Addams family. The sooner I can get the answers, the sooner I can save Enid — or die trying.”

Wednesday does have more control over her psychic powers than last season, spending the summer honing them with the help of Goody Addams’ Book of Spells. While she may seem confident, her powers start glitching, leaving her with black tears whenever she uses her powers.

And her mother may have the answers, as she tells Wednesday, “I know what those tears mean.”

Enid’s impending death isn’t the only tragedy Wednesday is facing. After saving the school from a Hyde in season one, she is now popular.

When asked about her new status at school, Ortega commented, “The atmosphere at Nevermore in the beginning of the school year is a living hell. It’s this terrible situation for Wednesday and she’s very upset.”

With her popularity comes a fan club, including Agnes DeMille, who has copied Wednesday’s braids and covers her door with posters of the sullen hero.

Wednesday also attracts the attention of another new character at Nevermore, Principal Barry Dort, who replaces Larissa Weems after her untimely end.

Family Dynamics

The Addams family is back and bigger than before.

Pugsley joins Wednesday as a student at Nevermore, and with their two children now enrolled, Morticia and Gomez will have more reasons to be on campus. Wednesday is less than pleased, especially since her relationship with her mother is still, well, strained.

However, she isn’t the only one dealing with problematic mother-daughter relationships. Grandmama Hester Frump, Morticia’s mother and Wednesday’s ally, is on the scene.

“Family weaves quite heavily into this season,” states executive producer and director Tim Burton. “One of the most interesting things about Wednesday is the Addams family mythology. …. This show is visually heightened, but at the heart of it are very real family dynamics.”
