One thing about 2025 is that TV isn’t playing it safe this year. While blockbuster movies grab headlines, the small screen has been quietly stealing the show. From ambitious book adaptations to the return of fan favorites, the most anticipated TV premieres of 2025 are something special. We have rounded up the shows that have audiences chatting and marking their calendars already.
Severance—Season 2

First up on our list of the most anticipated TV premieres of 2025 is Season 2 of Severance. The psychological thriller left audiences hanging with a brutal cliffhanger in 2022, and fans have anxiously awaited its return. Well, don’t worry. All of you fans can finally breathe—it returned on January 17th on Apple TV+, with weekly episodes dropping through March.
The show’s creators, Dan Erickson and Ben Stiller took what could have been a one-note concept about work-life balance and turned it into something much more compelling. Of course, the show is led by Adam Scott’s performance alongside Britt Lower and John Turturro. With new faces like Gwendoline Christie and Alia Shawkat joining the cast, this ten-episode season looks worth every second of the almost three-year wait.
The White Lotus—Season 3

The next must-watch of 2025 is Season 3 of The White Lotus, landing February 16th on HBO. Mike White’s luxury resort satire is leaving last season’s Sicily for Thailand this time. And, as usual, the new cast packs some serious star power with Parker Posey and Carrie Coon leading the ensemble, while BLACKPINK’s Lisa makes her acting debut.
However, spa manager Belinda (Natasha Rothwell) from Season 1 is the only familiar face in this upcoming season. Sorry, no more Jennifer Coolidge this time. They filmed this one across Koh Samui, Phuket, and Bangkok, so you know it’ll also be a gorgeous visual landscape at the very least.
I mean, if the first two seasons taught us anything, it’s that paradise isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. So, as a lover of the show, I can’t wait to see how it all goes wrong.
The Last of Us—Season 2

If you’ve been on the Internet, watched TV, or played video games, odds are you have heard of The Last of Us. Well, on HBO this April, we are getting the next season. The first season took home eight Emmy wins, and now the post-apocalyptic drama is taking a five-year time jump. Of course, Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey are back as Joel and Ellie. But things aren’t so cozy between them anymore.
This season, there’s also some major talent joining the cast. Kaitlyn Dever is stepping in as the controversial Abby, while Catherine O’Hara and Jeffrey Wright join the ensemble. Though it’s only seven episodes, audiences are preparing for another emotional journey of a season. After what the creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann did with last season’s devastating third episode, I mean, who can blame them?
The Bear—Season 4

Next, The Bear is returning for its fourth season, and honestly, who isn’t dying to see what happens next? After Season 3 dropped on Hulu and Disney+ this summer, we’ve been down the days to find out if Syd sticks around or jumps ship to that fancy new gig. Fans have speculated it will return in the summer of 2025, like in previous seasons. The good news is that we already know Jamie Lee Curtis is back as Mama Berzatto. Somehow, this show managed to keep its killer cast together despite the fact that Ayo Edebiri and Jeremy Allen White are basically taking over Hollywood.
Even though Chicago’s restaurant scene is brutal (and The Bear surely doesn’t hold back with it either), watching this crew try to survive has us glued to the screen. Between the restaurant drama and The Tribune review cliffhanger, Season 4 can’t come soon enough. Let’s just hope Carmy finally learns how to apologize… but hey, no spoilers if you haven’t caught up yet.
The Handmaid’s Tale– Season 6

Perhaps more relevant than ever, The Handmaid’s Tale comes next on our list. The final chapter of this series hits screens in 2025, and it’s shaping up to be the showdown fans have been waiting for. With Hulu dropping the first glimpses of Season 6, it’s clear June and Serena’s complicated dance isn’t over yet.
Elisabeth Moss returns to lead the cast, including Yvonne Strahovski, Bradley Whitford, and Ann Dowd. This promises to be an explosive conclusion to the series that forever changed how we think about dystopian TV. Early footage of the upcoming season hints at a major turning point. Serena warns that “something big is about to happen,” while June seems focused on one final rescue mission.
Given how the show has built up the tension with each season, this last run of episodes will deliver the conclusion that made the series and book such a cultural phenomenon in the first place. I, for one, will be watching.
Squid Game— Season 3

Even though we just got Season 2, Squid Game is another of the most anticipated TV premieres of 2025. Creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has been dropping hints about the third season of Netflix’s twisted survival drama. It’s coming this summer or fall. Post-production is nearly done. The wait for more deadly games might be shorter than fans expected. Come on!! As fans, we need more than that!!
That being said, the quick turnaround between seasons isn’t surprising. Seasons 2 and 3 were filmed back-to-back in an intense production schedule that wrapped in July 2024. While Netflix stays quiet about plot details, Season 2’s shocking ending has left viewers (myself included) desperate for answers.
But with Hwang promising the release will come “sooner than you’d expect,” 2025’s summer streaming schedule is about to get a lot more intense. For fans of the TV show that changed how we think about silly little children’s games forever, the countdown is on.
Yellowjackets—Season 3

Another highly anticipated TV premiere of 2025 is Yellowjackets Season 3, hitting Paramount+ with Showtime in early February. After delays from the 2023 strikes, the survival thriller is returning with its mix of past and present trauma. Christina Ricci teased this season will be “even more shocking,” while the show’s creator, Ashley Lyle, has hinted at a return to Season 1’s tone… with added weirdness.
Though Juliette Lewis won’t return after last season’s finale, the rest of the core cast remains intact. Melanie Lynskey and Christina Ricci are back, joined by newcomer Hilary Swank. Early footage in the trailer promises more backstabbing (both literal and figurative), mysterious deaths, and the show’s signature chaos. Plus, with a new 1998 timeline exploring the immediate aftermath of their return to civilization, we might finally get some answers about how these women became who they are today.
Stranger Things— Season 5

Next, of course, is the final season of Stranger Things. After Season 4’s wild finale, we’re all desperate to see how this series ends. They just wrapped filming in December 2024, and now we’ll finally see what happens when the show brings our crew into their high school years. Finn Wolfhard has even said it’s bringing back that Season 1 vibe we loved, so we really are anxiously awaiting.
And this last run is going all out. Linda Hamilton‘s joining the cast (because who is better for an 80s show?), and Vecna isn’t done with Hawkins yet. Sadie Sink is even confirmed to return, though Max’s fate after that coma from last season is still a mystery.
Netflix is also playing games with us, censoring part of that second episode title “The Vanishing of _.” Between that and the town literally splitting into pieces, the Duffer Brothers clearly aren’t holding anything back for their big finale.

Wednesday— Season 2

Capping our list of the most anticipated TV premieres of 2025 is Wednesday. After wrapping filming in Ireland, Netflix’s darkest teen detective is back for another twisted year at Nevermore Academy. Of course, Jenna Ortega is returning to both star and produce this time. And Catherine Zeta-Jones has promised a season “bigger and more twisted than you can ever imagine.” The cast is getting a serious boost, too, with Steve Buscemi and Thandiwe Newton joining the ensemble.
While those close to the show have kept most of the plot details locked up somewhere, they’ve hinted at a new chapter full of fresh mysteries. With the first episode titled “Here We Woe Again” and Tim Burton back in the director’s chair, it looks like Wednesday’s second season will be anything but normal. And who knows, now that TikTok is back, maybe we’ll even get another viral dance moment this season, too.
