Yellowstone fans might have a lot to look forward to after the end of the original series, thanks to the spinoffs, but there’s one change that no one saw coming. Die-hard fans probably have heard the news of this departure, and if so, let’s dive into the real reason Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan is leaving Paramount.

The creator of not only Yellowstone, but also 1923, Tulsa King, Special Ops: Lioness, and several more hits, is moving on from Paramount. The departure is startling, as Paramount’s biggest TV hitmaker is leaving, but why is he shifting into a new studio?

Taylor Sheridan reportedly clashed with Paramount’s new leadership before he decided to leave the studio. According to a report from The Wall Street Journal, the creator has multiple disagreements with Paramount’s new CEO, David Ellison, following the company’s recent merger with Skydance Media.

Now, Sheridan plans on moving his television deal from Paramount to NBCUniversal in 2028 when his current pact expires.

If you don’t know, Ellison is a close ally to President Donald Trump, and suggested a series tied to America’s 250th anniversary next year, but Sheridan allegedly pushed back and said he didn’t want to make a show “too politically charged.”

Despite Yellowstone being branded as a conservative show, especially with its Western themes, Sheridan has spoken about how he wants to show all sides of the political spectrum and was “apolitical publicly”, according to the New York Times.

Unfortunately, that’s not all that has gone wrong with Paramount. Along with that, Sheridan has had disputes with Paramount over the budget for his spy thriller, Special Ops: Lioness. There was also the fact that Nicole Kidman, the star of said show, was pulled from the drama after Paramount allegedly cast her in a separate series, Discretion, which caused scheduling conflicts, all without consulting Sheridan.

With this move, Paramount surely made a huge mistake, as Sheridan is responsible for some big hitters. While Paramount owns all the rights to Sheridan’s current slate of shows, along with the Yellowstone spinoffs and even Tulsa King‘s spinoff NOLA King, this could mean that the spinoffs might not have the same feel or style as the originals without his input.

Along with that, but Sheridan is surely going to be creating new outstanding work that will bring the views to NBCUniversal. Though Sheridan’s contract won’t end until 2028, fans are excited to see what he brings to the new channel in the future.
