Yellowstone is easily one of the biggest television shows right now. And apparently, the drama isn’t just about the fictional show. Allegations have surfaced about how Kevin Costner clashed with Yellowstone co-star in a heated debate that temporarily shut down productions.

For years, fans have wondered why Costner left the show ahead of the second half of its fifth and final season. Now, more information has been given that might reveal the tipping point.
According to Hollywood Reporter, allegations have surfaced that Kevin Costner got into an on-set incident during Yellowstone with Wes Bentley, who plays the son, Jamie Dutton, on the show.
The claim is that Costner encouraged the American Beauty alum, 47, to “ditch” show creator Taylor Sheridan’s script and play a certain scene differently. However, Bentley came back and said he signed up for a “Taylor Sheridan show, now a Kevin Costner production.”

According to the source, who claims to have been there, Costner proceeded to “lunge at” Bentley. The source says the actors pushed and shoved one another until they were separated. Kelly Reilly, 48, who plays Costner’s daughter, Beth Dutton, was allegedly.
Costner spoke to Deadline about the rumors of a feud between him and the showrunners in 2024, saying, “I have taken a beaten from those f–king guys, and I know a lot of times where it’s coming from. I just elected not to get into that. But if you know me well enough, I made ‘Yellowstone’ the first priority, and to insinuate anything else would be wrong. I did not initiate any of those things. They did.”
Apparently, a rep from Bentley confirmed that an altercation did take place. The rep referred to it as a “work-related argument during an emotional and physically tough scene,” adding that it was “discussed and resolved.”
There have been several reports throughout Yellowstone that Costner is actually “difficult” to work with, rubbing his co-stars the wrong way on set. Some believe this was the reason for Yellowstone’s demise, as it ended after only five seasons, with several spin-offs either already released or planned to be released.

Other speculation believes that Costner stepped away from Yellowstone to make Horizon, but the reason for his departure isn’t quite certain. Costner’s character was eventually killed off in the final season, closing his story completely. But fans can still catch various spin-offs of Yellowstone if they miss the world.
