While testifying at his own trial on Monday, former “Empire” star Jussie Smollett dropped a series of bombs as he denied staging a hate crime against himself back in January of 2019.

Jussie Smollett Takes The Stand

Brothers Abimbola “Bola” and Ola Osundairo testified against Smollett last week, saying that the “Empire” actor paid them to attack him while hurling racial and homophobic slurs at him and screaming “this is MAGA country!”

During five hours of testimony on Monday, however, Smollett denied the Osundairo’s account. Rather, he claims that the brothers may have had other motivations behind the attack.

CNN reported that Smollett testified that he had a sexual relationship with Bola, who helped him procure drugs like cocaine. Smollett claimed that they got a private room at a Chicago bath house one night and “did more drugs and like, made out.”

Bola Osundairo had testified last week that there was no sexual relationship between him and Smollett, and that he “didn’t know” that there was even sexual tension.

‘He Kind Of Creeped Me Out’

Jussie Smollett went on to testify that he had no relationship with Bola’s brother Ola Osundairo.

“He kind of creeped me out,” Smollett told the jury. “Every time we were around him, he didn’t speak to me. Every time we needed to leave, he made it seem like we needed to sneak off.”

Seven days before the alleged attack, Smollett was sent a “hate letter” on the set of “Empire,” and he alleged on the stand that Bola then offered to be his security guard. Bola had reportedly made this offer before, but he began to bring it up more in the wake of the letter, which Smollett said annoyed him.

“Around lunch time I would smoke my blunt, drive around the neighborhood of the studios. I don’t want to be in someone’s car,” Smollett said.

As they drove around, Smollett claims that he and Bola never discussed staging an attack.

“Did you talk to him about some hoax?” defense attorney Nenye Uche asked, with Smollett replying, “No.”

“Did you give him the check as payment for some silly hoax?” Uche then asked, with Smollett responding, “Never.”

Jussie Smollett Denies Saying Attackers Wore MAGA Hats

Smollett became emotional on the stand at times as he discussed the events leading up to the alleged attack on him. He responded “no” when Uche asked him if he had ever told police that his attackers were wearing “MAGA” hats,” which was widely reported at the time.

Smollett has pleaded not guilty to six counts of disorderly conduct, which could land him in prison for up to three years if convicted.

Despite his continued claims of innocence, many still feel that he tried to play off the racial and political divides in our country for his own personal gain by potentially staging this hate crime.

Jussie Smollett’s high profile trial continues today. So far it’s been one bombshell testimony after another. It will be interesting to see what today brings.
