During the 2025 Grammy Awards on Sunday night, Miley Cyrus slipped up by reigniting a conspiracy theory about her fellow singer Beyoncé.
Miley Reignites Beyoncé Conspiracy
Miley, 32, took the stage to present the Grammy Award for Record of the Year. As she spoke, Miley raised some eyebrows when she referenced a strange conspiracy theory that alleges that celebrities often thank Beyoncé, 43, in their acceptance speeches because they are afraid of her power and influence.
“Good evening Grammys! We won Beyoncé!” began Miley, who had just won a Grammy for her II Most Wanted collaboration with Beyoncé minutes before.
“As selected by the 13,000 voting members of the recording academy, the Grammy goes to… Even if it’s not you Beyoncé, I might just say it is,” Miley continued as the audience laughed nervously.
The award ultimately went to Kendrick Lamar for “Not Like Us.”
Social Media Users Respond
The “thank you Beyoncé” conspiracy theory went viral on TikTok last year. According to this conspiracy, major stars are allegedly forced to thank Beyoncé in gushing acceptance speeches at awards shows. It’s alleged that Beyoncé is so powerful in the entertainment world that her fellow stars must bow down to her or face her wrath.
Somewhat related, The Mix wrote yesterday that Beyonce won a Grammy for her country album, despite her music not even rating a nomination by the Country Music Awards.
As soon as Miley concluded her speech, the “thank you Beyoncé” conspiracy resurfaced on social media.
“Miley mentioning Beyonce not once BUT TWICE reminds me of the conspiracy theory,” one social media user commented. Another added, “Sounds like a whole lot of scared celebrities or Jay-Z to me.”
“At this point it doesn’t even feel like a conspiracy, it feels like a fact,” a third social media user claimed. “Why are we bringing Beyoncé into every single category? Why is it that every artist has to thank Beyoncé?… Like what is going on? This is no longer conspiracy, it’s no longer conspiracy, this needs to be studied.”
“Isn’t it weird how Kanye interrupted Taylor Swift in 2009 just to hype up Beyoncé?” someone else questioned. “Then Adele thanked her. Lizzo thanked her. Even Jay-Z, her own husband, made a big deal about thanking her in 2024. Who is she that all these major artists feel the need to publicly praise her? Her music isn’t exactly legendary – so what’s really going on?”

Billy Ray Cyrus Speaks Out
Meanwhile, Miley’s estranged father Billy Ray Cyrus congratulated both his daughter and Beyoncé on their Grammy win.
“Congratulations @mileycyrus and @beyonce on their well-deserved @recordingacademy Grammy wins!” he wrote on Instagram alongside an image announcing their win. “Couldn’t be prouder!!!”
While Miley is known to be estranged from her dad, she’s making an effort to stay out of drama surrounding her family.
“Miley used to feel overwhelmed by the family drama. She worked hard to remove herself. She’s not about to get involved again,” a source told People Magazine of Miley last month.. “She’s in a great place now…She’s thriving and looking out for herself.”
This Beyoncé conspiracy is certainly one for the ages. While there’s no evidence that it’s actually true, we can’t imagine that Beyoncé is too happy that Miley brought it up again!
