A horrifying video is going viral this week showing the moment an off-duty cop in California was beaten up by a group of teenagers outside a shopping center. The unprovoked assault occurred as the officer attempted to help a woman who said her phone was stolen. And resulted in multiple injuries.
Video Captures Teen Beating of Off-Duty Cop
Fox News reported that the assault occurred at around 8pm on Friday night at the Bay Street Mall in Emeryville. The entire fight was captured on surveillance footage. The Emeryville Police Department explained that the woman wearing white in the video had approached the group of teenagers minutes earlier and accused them of stealing her phone.
“She confronted them asking for her phone back. During the confrontation, the juveniles got aggressive with the victim and began to assault the victim,” said Emeryville Police Detective Jaime Pardo.
A California Highway Patrol officer, who asked only to be identified as Greg B., noticed the altercation. The off-duty officer approached the group of teens while trying to secretly snap photos of them. Unfortunately, one of the female teenagers caught on to what he was doing.
“The group then turned toward him and became violent with him,” Detective Pardo said.

The disturbing video, released on Monday, shows one of the teenagers run at the off-duty cop and hit him. While Greg tries to run, another teenager punches him until the officer is surrounded again. When a security guard tries to intervene, he can be seen being knocked down as well.
Police Officer Recalls What Happened
“It was a melee. It was chaotic. It was a really scary situation,” Greg B. recalled afterwards. “It should have never gotten to this point.”
He went on to say that though he tried to get away, he was not able to do so successfully before he found himself surrounded again.
“But I know that when I let him go, he’s going to swing at me. And I let him go. I push him and sure enough, he turns around and swings at me,” he said. “I back up and that’s when one of his friends came up behind me and struck me in the back of the head.”

Greg B., who is a former correctional officer at San Quentin Prison, said he never drew his gun during the altercation. Finally, his girlfriend was able to tell mall security that he was an off-duty state cop.
“There was a lot of restraint that had to be practiced,” he explained to reporters. “And I had to do my best to stay in the moment.”
Officer Is Left With Numerous Injuries
The officer was left with a concussion, a broken finger and bruises after the assault was over. Surprisingly, Greg B. said that this was the third time that he had to step in and help someone at this shopping center.
“I think this just came down to me not being able to look away and let this happen,” he said. “I saw this young lady and she was going to be in a very bad situation.”
Police said that they arrested two juveniles, ages 14 and 16, in connection with this incident. And that six others are being sought at this time. Investigators released the surveillance footage in the hopes that it will help them catch the others who are responsible for this brutal assault.
Unfortunately, attacks on police are becoming increasingly common these days, as leftists have taken to portraying the men and women in blue as the bad guys. Now, more than ever, it is important to keep all American police officers in your thoughts and prayers.
