It’s safe to say that Rachel Zegler’s Snow White was a disappointment. The 2025 live-action remake of Snow White was a huge controversy from the beginning, and was review-bombed upon release. But Snow White is now streaming for more viewers to see, and its popularity is skyrocketing.

The live-action adaptation of the classic fairytale and Disney movie had a troubled development with several delays, controversies, and backlash. Because of this, the movie eventually became a box office failure. However, now that Snow White is streaming, it’s become a hit.

The movie premiered on Disney+ internationally on June 11, and a day later, the live-action adaptation already entered the charts. However, while it’s getting ample views, it’s easy to tell why it’s skyrocketing. With immense backlash and horrid reviews, people are watching to see just how bad it actually is.
Snow White is currently in third place on streaming platforms in the U.S. The live-action, however, still has low reviews. Critics rated the movie at 40% on Rotten Tomatoes, while the audience gave it a more positive review at 71%. However, IMDb rates it at a staggering low 1.8.

The film barely grossed $205 million against the high budget of $270 million. So what happened to the movie to make it such a disappointment? The live-action film based on the 1937 classic animated film (which was Disney’s first animated film) received most of its criticism from star Rachel Zegler.

Not only did many complain about casting someone with a Latin background, when Snow White‘s name comes from her “skin white as snow” description, but Zegler’s thoughts on the movie were disappointing to hear. Zegler’s comments in a 2022 interview mentioned the movie was “dated” and highlighted Snow White’s relationship with Prince Charming as “weird, weird.”
Everyone appreciates a strong and independent character, but sometimes we have to let the classics be classics. Sometimes a story about Prince Charming is okay. And it seems like Zegler wasn’t a fan of the story that she was starring in. It was a shame to see.
But Snow White is now streaming on Disney, giving audiences a look inside this disappointing adaptation without having to spend any extra money. When you have some time to spare, check out Rachel Zegler’s live-adaption, Snow White, now on Disney+.
