Gamers, get ready. Because A Minecraft Movie 2 is officially confirmed and even has a release date. The first movie was released earlier this year in April and is currently the third-highest-grossing movie of 2025 worldwide. And while we heard news of a second movie in early development, we finally have an update.
The official A Minecraft Movie account on X (originally Twitter) just confirmed that the sequel will debut in theaters on July 23, 2027. Their post includes a reference to the video game by describing the work on the sequel as “building terrain,” and also features a teaser poster showcasing two Minecraft pickaxes.

A Minecraft Movie is also the second-highest-grossing video game adaptation ever, just behind The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which was released in 2023.
Directed by Jared Hess, known for Napoleon Dynamite, the adventure comedy follows a group of oddballs who are transported through a portal to the Overworld, a cubic world bursting with opportunity. In the world, the main cast meets Steve, played by Jack Black, who needs help thwarting the evil piglin sorceress Malgosha, voiced by Rachel House.
While the first movie, which is adapted from the iconic sandbox game sharing the same name, had mixed reviews, it was an overall cultural sensation that sparked several social media trends and had meme-worthy lines.
As of right now, there isn’t any more information on who will be in the sequel. Fans can hopefully see Black and Momoa reprising their roles as Steve and Garrett, respectively. But there’s not much else to go on right now.
