Despite some initial mixed reviews, A Minecraft Movie is breaking records. Along with the best domestic opening weekend in the U.S. for any video game movie, the film also earned the titles of the best opening weekend for any movie this year and the biggest opening since Deadpool & Wolverine.
It’s no surprise, as the game has drawn in millions of players and views on YouTube gameplays. Young children, preteens, teenagers, and adults alike are pouring into the theaters to dive into the block world.
The film stars Jack Black alongside Jason Momoa, Emma Myers, Jennifer Coolidge, Danielle Brooks, Sebastian Eugene Hanson, etc.
However, with the key demographic being primarily teenage boys, there have been a few issues surrounding watching the film in theaters. Whether it’s clapping and cheering throughout, dumping popcorn all over, or just creating havoc, some fans of A Minecraft Movie may need to tone it down a notch.

Noises During the Film
One of the biggest interruptions during the film is cheering and clapping during key parts of the movie.
Shown on several TikTok videos and on X, these catchphrases may be as simple as when Black states, “I am Steve,” or as electrifying as the “Chicken Jockey” scene. While these scenes may be nostalgic or exciting for viewers, the extra noise has caused differing reactions.
Some parents enjoy watching their kids have fun and join in on the cheers, allowing them to express themselves about a game they enjoy.
Others look at the cheering as a distraction, and see no use for it in a theater, calling it “unnecessary” and “inconsiderate” to other moviegoers.
All in all, you cannot deny the positive response to this film.
The Aftermath in Certain Theaters
Cheering and clapping during a movie may be slightly distracting, but it’s nothing like what else is happening at theaters. One of the other issues when going to see A Minecraft Movie is getting stray popcorn in your hair, clothes, and basically everywhere in the theater.
Several workers have posted videos detailing the amount of trash left behind, pulling out more and more trash between the seats with each swipe. It doesn’t help either that fans are purposely throwing popcorn in the air during certain scenes in the movie, particularly the “chicken jockey” scene with Momoa and Black.
Several posts on X, like the one above, have shown video proof of viewers chucking popcorn into the air like confetti. This is extremely messy for the theater workers and has also caused some issues with moviegoers.
One particular instance had an adult chase a teenager out of the theater and call the cops after getting popcorn dumped on him.
While it may be exciting to see your favorite moments on the big screen, it doesn’t seem to excuse the fact of annoying fellow viewers and theater staff.

Is This Acceptable?
As cheering and popcorn continue to fly, the real question is: is this acceptable?
In terms of the cheering and clapping, it depends on the person. Some viewers and parents enjoy the emotions evoked by the younger generations, embracing their passions and favorite moments. Others cannot stand the interruptions in a place where cheering and clapping seem “unnecessary.”
However, the popcorn issue is a different story. Those throwing it are not only inconveniencing the viewers around them but also the workers who have to go in and spend hours sweeping up the mess. While this may be okay in an outdoor environment or at home, it seems just a little too enthusiastic to be doing in public.
