During Wednesday’s episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast, Olivia Wilde revealed a mortifying interaction with Tom Cruise.
The Don’t Worry, Darling director talked about her viral moment in 2022 when she was served custody papers while on stage at CinemaCon by her ex, Jason Sudeikis. While talking about her experience, she relived the awkward interaction with the A-list actor.
The actress began by saying it was “one of the most f—ed up things I went through, among so many, was that I was served papers on stage,” she explained.
“Obviously, it was incredibly traumatizing; there are so many elements to that. But I get through it because, weirdly, as women, we’re taught to muscle through the most insane experiences. Like, ‘just finish your speech.’ Got through it. Went backstage, completely dissolved into a puddle.”
When she met the Top Gun star, 63, he said, “Hi, I’m Tom. F—ed up what happened to you in Vegas.”
Wilde recalled the experience, saying, “I was like, ‘No!’ I was like, ‘OK, so it went wide.’ Got it, got it.”
The actress, 42, was hoping that no one saw it “because there [were] no phones allowed in this event,” but realized, “it’s already up on Page Six? There’s a video?”

She added that she didn’t know if the incident was orchestrated or not. Apparently, “Jason has told me that he did not know, and I need to believe that to continue.”
She continued, saying that lawyers can do crazy things, saying she was aware of that, “but I think that people are never their best selves when they’re engaging in that kind of process.”
“I know that whether or not he knew it was going to happen, I know it really hurt him to see it happening to me.”
In 2022, after the viral moment, The Independent reported on a source close to the Ted Lasso creator, saying he was unaware of the papers being served to Wilde at CinemaCon. Apparently, the source said that he “would never condone” delivering legal documents in such an “inappropriate manner.”
