Jennifer Lopez shuts down Savannah Guthrie’s awkward question about her Office Romance co-star Brett Goldstein.
During Tuesday’s episode of Today, Savannah Guthrie asked her guests whether speculation about their offscreen chemistry was true, a question that seemed to catch Lopez by surprise.
The rumor has been going around since the release of their new romantic comedy, Office Romance. When Lopez appeared on Andy Cohen’s show, she described Goldstein as her favorite on-screen kiss, and Guthrie referenced those comments when asking about the dating rumors.
Lopez, of course, during any awkward question, looked frustrated, and responded with, “There’s never a time where I’m seen with somebody or working with somebody where they don’t try to put me with the person.”
Goldstein, best known for his role in the Apple TV Emmy-winning series, Ted Lasso, attempted to lighten the mood with a joke, saying, “I think if you stand near her, that’s what happens.”
Guthrie added in quickly, saying, “That’s what you wish would happen.”
Goldstein jumped on that humor, saying, “That’s why I’ve been standing so close this whole time,” getting some laughs from the group and audience.
Unfortunately, Guthrie didn’t take the hint, because she dug a bit more, saying, “OK, but I’ll just say, because I’m me and you know me, that was not an answer.”
“That was not an answer?” Lopez retorted. “That was an answer! All these people – I was with Kevin Costner this year,” she trailed off, saying that she’s always being paired with co-stars.
Then when Guthrie pressed her even further, Lopez confirmed that they were “Not dating.”
“Correct,” Goldstein added.
Later in the interview, Guthrie mixed up the papers with her interview prep and admitted she got “flustered” by Lopez, who joked that it was payback for the earlier questioning. “You tried to fluster us,” Lopez said, “and we flustered you!.”
