Earlier this year, we reported that Rosie O’Donnell had fled the United States to move to Ireland. Two weeks ago, we reported that President Donald Trump had doubled down on his previous threat to revoke O’Donnell’s citizenship.
Now, O’Donnell is speaking out to whine about supposedly having to miss her daughter’s college graduation in the U.S. after fleeing the country.
O’Donnell Misses Daughter’s Graduation
During a recent interview on the No Filter podcast, O’Donnell whined that she had to miss her daughter’s graduation after moving across the world just to get away from Trump. O’Donnell, 63, claimed that she couldn’t return to America for the ceremony due to unspecified “security concerns.”
“My daughter graduated college and I didn’t go back because the security people said to me they didn’t think it was wise,” lamented O’Donnell, 63. “Because I think Trump will use me to rile his base.”
“[Trump’s] ability to denigrate people and dismiss them and humiliate them encouraged other people to do the same,” she added. “I’m his nemesis in his mind and to them. To a third of the country. That’s a very difficult place to be.”
O’Donnell briefly addressed her daughter’s college graduation in an Instagram post back in May.
“My smart beautiful loving daughter Vivi is graduating from college,” she wrote. “I’m so proud of her!!!!
Later that same month, O’Donnell pledged not to return to America until Trump is out of office.
“With the current political climate, when would it be safe to come back with my child?” she told Variety back in May. “I’m not going to push it before this administration is completely finished, and hopefully held accountable for their crimes.”
O’Donnell Changes Her Tune
By last week, however, O’Donnell had seemingly changed her tune. In an interview with 60 Minutes Australia, O’Donnell indicated that she may soon come crawling back to America after all.
“I would like to go back and see my older children and do all of those things when it’s safe,” O’Donnell confessed. “And we have people there in the United States who are advising me on what would be right and healthy and what would be safe for myself and my family. And I’m going to listen to those experts.”
O’Donnell has long been known as one of the most obsessively anti-Trump celebrities in Hollywood. Given how vehemently anti-Trump Hollywood is, that’s saying a lot!
In fact, O’Donnell despises Trump so much that she moved across the globe just to get away from him. Indeed, she shocked the world when she fled the U.S. and moved to Ireland with her 12 year-old child Clay back in January.
In June, O’Donnell admitted to the former CNN host Chris Cuomo that she fled America because of Trump’s presidential victory. She even described this move as being one of “self-preservation,” since she greatly struggled during Trump’s first presidency.
“During his first go-round, it was very difficult, and I got myself into some bad places,” said O’Donnell. “You know, I was very, very depressed. I was overeating, I was overdrinking. I was so depressed, Chris.”
Does O’Donnell Regret Fleeing America?
In a May interview, O’Donnell claimed to have no regrets about making this move.
“Never, for one moment since I arrived here, did I regret my choice,” O’Donnell told Variety at the time. “People have been so welcoming, so accepting, and they have a different view of celebrity in the culture here. They are not prioritized over other people.”
However, her latest 60 Minutes Australia interview isn’t the first time O’Donnell has indicated that she might actually have some regrets. In another video posted to TikTok, O’Donnell admitted that “it’s not easy moving to another country.”
Watch O’Donnell talk more about that in the video below.
O’Donnell is clearly one very confused woman who can’t figure out where she wants to be. On the one hand, she despises Trump so much so that she can’t stand the thought of living in a country that he presides over. On the other, however, O’Donnell is likely learning firsthand that America really is the greatest country in the world to live in.
If O’Donnell was so eager to go to her own daughter’s college graduation, perhaps she should have thought about that before she fled the country. In the end, we’re hoping she stays in Ireland, because America is simply better off without Rosie O’Donnell in it!
