Last week, we reported that the Oscar-winning Hollywood star Mel Gibson had lost his home in Malibu to the California wildfires. On Wednesday, Gibson returned to where his home once stood to survey what was left of it, and he couldn’t help but become emotional at the scene.

Gibson’s ‘Emotional’ Return To His Former Home

Sadly, there’s so little left of the $14.5 million mansion that Gibson, 69, lived in for the last fifteen years that “you could put it in an urn.”

Gibson was escorted to his home in a firetruck. He then got out to walk around the charred remains of his mansion.

“Obviously, it’s kind of devastating. It’s emotional,” Gibson admitted. “I had a lot of personal things there that, you know, I can’t get back.”

Gibson Was Filming Joe Rogan’s Podcast As His Home Burned

Gibson had been filming Joe Rogan’s popular podcast last week as his home was burning to the ground. He explained that he was “ill at ease” during that interview because “I knew my neighborhood was on fire” and was wondering “if my place is still there.”

“But when I got home, sure enough, it wasn’t there,” he added. Showing that his sense of humor is still intact, Gibson quipped that at least now he doesn’t have any “pesky plumbing problems” to worry about anymore.

While Gibson said that he lost a lot of “cool stuff” in the fire, he knows it’s (mostly) replaceable. In the end, he’s just happy that his family and other loved ones are safe.

After assessing what was left of his home, Gibson was seen shaking the hands of firefighters and first responders, thanking them for their efforts.

Billy Crystal And More Celebrities Lose Their Home

Gibson is sadly one of many celebrities who have lost their homes to the wildfires. Others include Paris Hilton, Anna Faris, Anthony Hopkins, John Goodman, Miles Teller, Ricki Lake, Cary Elwes, Cameron Mathison, Milo Ventimiglia, Spencer Pratt, and Heidi Montag.

Billy Crystal announced last week that the home he and his wife Janice have lived in for 46 years burned to the ground in the wildfires as well.

“Words cannot describe the enormity of the devastation we are witnessing and experiencing,” Crystal, 76, told People Magazine. “We ache for our friends and neighbors who have also lost their homes and businesses in this tragedy.”

“Janice and I lived in our home since 1979,” he continued. “We raised our children and grandchildren here. Every inch of our house was filled with love. Beautiful memories that can’t be taken away. We are heartbroken of course but with the love of our children and friends we will get through this.”

Crystal ended his statement with a message of hope.

“We pray for the safety of the firefighters and first responders,” Crystal concluded. “The Pacific Palisades is a resilient community of amazing people and we know in time it will rise again. It is our home.”
