Back in November, we reported that the comedian Ellen DeGeneres had fled America. She then moved across the world to the United Kingdom. Ellen has since been laying low in England with her actress wife Portia de Rossi of Arrested Development fame.
Now, insiders are saying that Meghan Markle, the wife of Prince Harry, was left “blindsided” by Ellen’s move. According to these sources, this has led to a rift between the two women, as Meghan “feels betrayed” by Ellen.
Meghan Feels ‘Betrayed’ By Ellen
It’s been five years since Meghan, 43, and Harry, 40, stepped down as senior royals. They then moved across the world to Southern California, where Meghan was born and raised. They ultimately settled in the ritzy area of Montecito, where they were neighbors to Ellen, 67, and Portia, 52.
Meghan and Ellen quickly developed a close friendship, with the former Suits actress even appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show for one of her first interviews after returning to the U.S.
Now, however, insiders are telling Rob Shuter’s #ShuterScoop that Meghan and Ellen’s friendship has since gone off the rails.
“Sources tell #ShuterScoop that Ellen’s headline-making decision to relocate permanently to the U.K. — the very place Meghan publicly fled and branded ‘toxic’ — has torched their once-close friendship,” Shuter reported. “The 67-year-old comedian and wife Portia de Rossi snapped up an $18 million estate in the Cotswolds and are loving life across the pond.”

Ellen Gushes Over England
Indeed, during an interview with the British TV host Richard Bacon, Ellen was quick to praise both England and the people who call the European nation home.
“It’s beautiful. The people are polite. Even the animals are treated better,” Ellen gushed. “It’s better in every way.”
Insiders close to Meghan claim that she was left devastated by Ellen’s comments.
“She feels betrayed,” one Hollywood insider alleged. “Ellen knows exactly what she’s doing. It’s a direct shot.”
“Meghan says England broke her,” the source later added. “Ellen says it saved her.”

Meghan’s Netflix Debacle
Meanwhile, this comes at a difficult time for Meghan, as it’s been reported that her $100 million contract with Netflix isn’t being renewed.
“No one in Hollywood rates them anymore or wants to be around them, especially her,” a Netflix source told Daily Mail last week. “People are bored with them.”
This came after Meghan’s Netflix show With Love, Meghan failed to even crack the top 300 of the streaming service’s most viewed shows for the first half of 2025. Instead, it came in at number 382.
“Meghan hasn’t posted on her own socials for nearly a month,” the Netflix insider continued. “The issue is that there’s no consistency and people are bored with them. Many stars go silent and in the background are building their brand and equity but it feels like Harry and Meghan are losing their way even more.”
“The Netflix deal not being renewed will have a big impact on them as they are running out of options of who will work with them and reap in the future,” the source concluded.

Meghan clearly needs all the A-list Hollywood friends that she can get right now. That has to make it sting even more that her former friend Ellen ditched her to move to England.
