Back in November, we reported that the comedian Ellen DeGeneres had fled America and moved across the world to the United Kingdom. In the months since then, DeGeneres has been laying low in England with her wife, Portia de Rossi.
That’s why it came as a surprise when DeGeneres reemerged on Instagram on Sunday. There, she posted a video of herself suffering a humiliating fail in her new home.
DeGeneres Reemerges On Social Media
DeGeneres, 67, shared a video of herself attempting to mow her huge lawn at her home in the English countryside. The clip was recorded by de Rossi, a 52 year-old actress best known for starring in the television comedy Arrested Development.
“Portia thought it would be fun to film my first time on the mower,” DeGeneres wrote in the caption. “She was right.”
The video opens with a caption that reads “How it started.” DeGeneres can be seen attempting to maneuver her ride-on mower. Though she seems confident at first, she begins to struggle on the hilly terrain. The video ends with the caption “How it ended,” which comes up when DeGeneres is seen getting help from a man who pushed her mower for her after she appeared to have gotten stuck.
In the video, you’ll notice that DeGeneres no longer has her signature blonde hair. Instead, she is rocking a new brunette look.

DeGeneres Moves To England
It was first reported that DeGeneres had left America to move to the U.K. back in November.
“Ellen was in England house hunting in the beginning of October,” a source told People Magazine at the time. “She ended up finding a house that she loved and purchased it shortly after.”
In March, DeGeneres officially cut ties with America when she sold her last property in the U.S. She and de Rossi have since settled in a multi-million dollar farmhouse in the Cotswolds, a celebrity hotspot. The Cotswolds is a rural area of Southwest England that is located around 100 miles from London.
Other stars who call Cotswolds home include David and Victoria Beckham, Kate Moss, Patrick Stewart, Elizabeth Hurley, Jeremy Clarkson, and Damien Hirst. King Charles himself even owns property in the area!

Here’s Why DeGeneres Fled America
A source close to DeGeneres previously claimed that the comedian chose to flee America because of all the “ill will towards her.” This stems from her infamous toxic workplace scandal.
“Ellen really felt she had made her mark on the industry, but that was diminished when she was cancelled over her alleged treatment of her staff,” this insider told Daily Mail. “Then to have celebrities call her out one by one was so hurtful.'”
“For Ellen, it’s easier to move away from her problems than to confront them,” the source continued. “It seems like a sad end to what she once was in people’s minds.”

Many celebrities have pledged to leave America for a variety of reasons. However, DeGeneres is one of the few who has actually put her money where her mouth is by following through with it. Only time will tell if DeGeneres ever ends up coming back to America!
