Tony Danza Opens Up About Turning 73 – ‘That’s The Age Old People Are!’

The Hollywood star Tony Danza of “Who’s The Boss?” fame celebrated his 73rd birthday yesterday, and he isn’t quite sure how to feel about it!

Danza Discusses His Birthday

While appearing on the “Today” show on Friday morning, Danza was asked about turning 73, and he replied, “Oh, you know. I think as we get older, they become less and less important. I’m not really, you know … it’s another day.”

“It’s a tipping point I think, you know what I mean?” he stated. “You know how at 50, you start waking up with injuries? You go to bed, you’re fine, you wake up with a broken leg? 60 you get very self-reflective. ‘What have I done, what haven’t I done? What should I do?’”

“70 is seminal. [71] wasn’t bad, [72] wasn’t bad. [73] feels tipping,” Danza added. “You know, that’s the age old people are.”

Danza Talks Teaching Acting To Kids

During this same interview, Danza opened up about teaching acting to children while working with The Stars of Tomorrow Project.

“I’m a big believer that we, as a society, we’ve totally advocated any responsibility for nurturing our children. There’s no more family hour or any of that stuff,” Danza said. “So we started a teen acting program, the slogan of which is, ‘Teen acting: ’cause when you teach a kid how to act, you teach a kid how to act!’ “

“So we have a couple of levels of acting, free acting, voice, dance,” he continued. “We’re introducing tap dancing. This semester we have a wellness component. Take them shopping and teach them how to cook. It’s just a wonderful [program] and an ensemble building. One of the most important things, [because] so much of today is about the self.”

When asked why it’s so important to him to nurture children who aren’t his own, Danza replied, “Because they are our own! They are all our kids, you know what I mean?”

‘Who’s The Boss?’ Reboot

Back in December, Danza opened up about a potential reboot of his sitcom “Who’s The Boss?,” which originally aired from 1984 until 1992.

“It’s been up in the ether for so long, I’m hoping it happens now!” Danza said, according to Yahoo News. “You know, at some point, you’re like ‘Yeah, let’s do it!’ So I’m just waiting to hear like everybody else.”

It had been announced back in 2020 that Sony Pictures Television was developing a “Who’s the Boss?” revival with Danza and Alyssa Milano set to reprise their roles from the original series. The reboot was set to center around Milano’s character, who would now be living in the home from the original series 30 years later.

Sony said at the time that the new series would “explore generational differences, as well as opposing world views and parenting styles within the dynamic of a modern family in 2020.”

It is unknown why exactly this reboot never came to fruition.

While Danza may have mixed feelings about turning 73, it’s clear that he is still young at heart. We would like to wish him a very happy birthday, and many more to come!

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
