Ozzy, Cher, DMB Going Into Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame

It’s that time of year again. Who is going into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?

The 2024 eclectic class of winners are Mary J. Blige, Cher, Dave Matthews Band, Foreigner, Peter Frampton, Kool & the Gang, Ozzy Osbourne and A Tribe Called Quest, who will all be inducted at a ceremony at Cleveland’s Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse on October 19th.

Ozzy Osbourne Becomes a Two-Time Hall of Fame Inductee

In this year’s lineup, four of the eight inductees (Cher, Foreigner, Kool & the Gang and Frampton) had their first time on the ballot. Osbourne will become a two-time inductee since he already belongs to the HOF as the original singer for Black Sabbath.

Which 2024 nominees did not make into the Hall this year? Mariah Carey, Eric B. & Rakim, Jane’s Addiction, Lenny Kravitz, Oasis, Sinéad O’Connor and Sade.

This obviously does not mean any of these artists are precluded from being nominated again in the future and being chose to be inducted into the HOF.

Artists are eligible for the HOF after 25 years have passed since their first commercial recording.

Other HOF News

In other HOF news, Alexis Korner, John Mayall and Big Mama Thornton will be recognized with the Musical Influence award. That award is described as having “directly influenced, inspired and evolved rock’n’roll and music impacting youth culture.”

In addition, the late Jimmy Buffett, Dionne Warwick, MC5, and Norman Whitfield will receive the Musical Excellence award for their “originality and influence.”

During a rock n’ roll themed episode of “American Idol” on Sunday night, hosts Ryan Seacrest and Lionel Richie revealed the 2024 HOF inductees. The actual HOF event will be streamed live on Disney Plus, and will be available on Hulu the next day and air as a separate ABC special at a later time.

Rock n’ Roll ‘Ever-Evolving’

Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation chairman John Sykes said of this year’s picks, “Rock’n’roll is an ever-evolving amalgam of sounds that impacts culture and moves generations. This diverse group of inductees each broke down musical barriers and influenced countless artists that followed in their footsteps.”

Last year’s winners included Rage Against the Machine, Willie Nelson, George Michael, Missy Elliott, Sheryl Crow, Kate Bush and the Spinners.

It remains to be seen how Cher will react to this honor, as she just spoke out about not being in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame back in December.

“You know what, I wouldn’t be in it now if they gave me a million dollars … I’m never going to change my mind,” she told the singer and talk show host Kelly Clarkson, according to Variety. “They can just go you-know-what themselves.”
