Carol Burnett, 90, Stuns Fans By Revealing She Wants Angelina Jolie To Play Her In Biopic – ‘She’s Perfect’

The comedic Hollywood legend Carol Burnett has shocked many of her fans by revealing that she wants the A-list star Angelina Jolie to play her in a biopic.

Burnett Wants Jolie To Play Her

Daily Mail reported that Burnett, whose eponymous variety show won 25 Emmys during its run from 1967-1978, revealed in a new interview that she’d love to see the Oscar-winning Jolie, 48, play her on the big screen.

“I think she’s perfect,” Burnett told E! News of Jolie. Burnett”s “Palm Royale” co-star Kristen Wiig of “Saturday Night Live” fame was quick to agree, enthusiastically replying, “yes!”

Though Burnett is preparing to turn 91 next month, she isn’t slowing down at all. In this same interview, she explained that she agreed to appear in the new AppleTV+ series “Palm Royale” before she’d even read the screenplay, just because she was so impressed by the cast, which includes Wiig as well as Allison Janney, Ricky Martin, Laura Dern, Bruce Dern, and more.

“When they called me about doing it, I didn’t even have to read a script,” Burnett explained. “I said, ‘I’m in,’ because of who I would be working with, and that was it. And then I read the script and that was the icing on the cake.”

Burnett Loved Making ‘Palm Royale’

Burnett had so much fun working on this project that she is hoping that the show will get renewed for a second season.

“Well, I hope there’s a second season, you know, then that’ll keep me working, which I like. Yes, as long as I have fun, and that’s what I want,” she explained.

“I always approach it as something new that I’ve never done before, so I’m just happy to be working and that I’ve got all my parts,” Burnett added. “I have my hips and my knees — and I think my brain — so as long as I can keep that up and work, then I want to work. Age is just a number and I’ll go as long as I can.”

In “Palm Royale,” which premieres on Wednesday, Burnett plays Norma D’ellacourt, doyenne of Palm Beach, Florida society circa 1969.

“She’s not a very nice person at all,” Burnett told The Toronto Star of Norma. “In reality, I think she is a bad person, but that’s what’s fun to play.”

Burnett also enjoyed making friends with her cast-mates. She plays Wordle daily with Janney, and she regularly socializes with Wiig and Dern.

“It was a joy to work with everybody,” Burnett gushed.

Burnett Discusses Her Legacy

When asked about her legacy, Burnett said that while she doesn’t dwell on her own, she loves the quote: “People will forget what you said and people forget what you did, but they’ll never forget how you made them feel.”

“I remember when I was a kid going to the movies with my grandmother and we were poor … but we did save our pennies and go to the movies,” she said. “And they cheered me up. They made me feel that there was hope.”

That’s partly why Burnett still enjoys answering fan mail from admirers who tell her how much joy she has brought them, with her saying, “that makes me feel so good to know that … I just hope I made people feel good when they were down.”

Burnett is a true legend, and there will never be another one like her. Be sure to check her out on “Palm Royale” when it drops on Apple + on Wednesday!

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
