According to a report, a popular AEW talent’s contract has expired. Plus, when will the new Ring of Honor (ROH) tag team titles debut? WNZ has more information on both stories, below.
As per Wrestling Observer Radio’s Dave Meltzer, Brian Cage’s AEW contract has already expired. He currently holds one-third of the ROH six-man tag titles, along with Toa Liona and Bishop Kaun, within Prince Nana’s Embassy stable.
Fightful first reported that even though Cage’s agreement with AEW was coming to a close, the promotion was hoping to add time to his deal because of the time he missed due to an injury. As such, that would have extended his contract to June 2023.
However, reports reveal that Brian “pushed back” on that extension, as he’s keen on becoming a free agent. This would open some options for Cage, as it seems as if the WWE is interested in the star.
Cage debuted in AEW back in 2020 during the Double or Nothing event. He was the surprise entrant in the Casino Ladder match, winning the contest.
Some highlights during his AEW run include his time on Team Taz, plus his reign with the FTW title. Only time will tell whether Brian Cage ends up in the WWE.
Speaking of ROH, Tony Khan recently revealed when and where the company’s new Tag Team titles will debut. See more on this story, below.
The new ROH World Tag Team Championship titles are set to debut soon. Where will fans see them first?
Tony Khan recently was on the Battleground Podcast. He reveals that the company is retiring the old championships, following the passing of Jay Briscoe.
At the time of his untimely death, Jay and his brother Mark Briscoe held the titles. They beat FTR for the championships at ROH’s Final Battle event in December 2022.
Therefore, it makes sense to retire the old design. Not only out of respect for the Briscoe brothers but to also honor the late and great Jay Briscoe.
Khan states during his interview that he was thinking of ways to further pay tribute to Jay. Mark believed retiring the old design was a good idea too, so Tony moved forward with the idea.
Tony notes that the new tag titles will debut during ROH’s Supercard of Honor event. The five teams competing in the “Reach for the Sky” Ladder match will determine the new champs, which is when the new titles will debut.
The five teams competing include The Lucha Bros, The Kingdom, Top Flight, LIF’s RUSH and Dralistico, as well as Aussie Open. Should be a great match.
Which team will become the new ROH World Tag Champions? It’s hard to say but it will be interesting to see who ends up with the gold around their waists when all is said and done.
ROH’s Supercard of Honor event takes place in L.A. at the Galen Center on March 31st, 2022. It’ll feature talent from AEW, as well as NJPW, and AAA.
