Whoopi Goldberg Comes Unglued As Heckler Calls Her An ‘Old Broad’ On ‘The View’

Things went off the rails on the ABC talk show “The View” once again this week when Whoopi Goldberg fired back at a heckler who caller her “an old broad.”

Goldberg Fires Back At Heckler

Entertainment Weekly was trying to open the show on Wednesday morning when one audience member who was especially enthusiastic could be heard shouting at her.

“We’re happy to see ya’ll. Cool, well, go on and have a seat,” Goldberg said, adding that the audience was “very happy.” She then turned to one female member of the audience to address something she said. 

“Did you just call me an old broad? Yeah?” asked a visibly angry Goldberg.

As the camera cut to a woman who had a large fur hat on, the 67 year-old former Sister Act star stated, “She said, ‘You old broad,’ and I was like, hey, it’s Wednesday, and I am an old broad, and happy about it!”

Co-host Sunny Hostin tried to calm Goldberg down by pointing out that being an “old broad” is better than “the alternative,” seemingly referring to being dead.

“The alternative is not attractive to any of us,” Goldberg fired back. “We all want to be old broads and old dudes, you know?”

For the rest of the show, the camera kept cutting to the heckler an inordinate number of times. Check out the awkward moment in the video below.

Goldberg’s Embarrassing Fat Suit Situation

Goldberg has seemed to be particularly touchy over her appearance over the past few months. Back in October, she hit back at a critic of her movie Till who claimed that Goldberg wore a fat suit to portray Alma Carthan, the grandmother of Emmett Till. 

This did not sit well with Goldberg, as she alleged that she did not wear a fat suit for the film, and that her heavier appearance was simply her real body. 

“There was a young lady who writes for one of the magazines, and she was distracted by my fat suit, in her review,” Goldberg said at the time, according to Variety. “I don’t really care how you felt about the movie, but you should know that was not a fat suit, that was me. That was steroids. Remember last year? I assume you don’t watch the show, or you would know that was not a fat suit.”

“It’s okay to not be a fan of movie, but you want to leave people’s looks out,” she continued. “Just comment on the acting. And if you have a question, ask somebody. I’m sure you didn’t mean to be demeaning.”

Goldberg’s Holocaust Controversy

This also comes after weeks of calls growing for ABC to fire Goldberg from “The View” due to her once again saying that the Holocaust was not about race in an interview at the end of December.

Goldberg had been suspended from “The View” for two weeks for making similar comments about the Holocaust in February of last year, and though she backtracked and apologized at the time, fans were horrified when she seemingly doubled down on what many saw as her anti-semitic views last month. 

It seems that after such a stressful few months for Goldberg, this heckler hit a nerve when she referred to her as an “old broad!” Given Goldberg’s frequent outbursts and controversies, it remains to be seen how long ABC will continue to think it’s worth keeping this “old broad” around.
