Harrison Ford has completed work on the untitled fifth Indiana Jones movie, which is set to come out next summer. In a new interview, the 80 year-old Ford makes the surprising revelation that advanced technology was used to de-age him for a portion of the film.
Daily Mail reported that the fifth movie will start with Indiana Jones looking like he did when we all met him for the first time in 1981’s Raiders Of The Lost Ark. It will then age him forward to 1969, when he looks like Ford does right now.
In a new interview, Ford opened up about what it is like to see his younger self in the film.
“It’s a little spooky,” Ford told Empire Magazine. “I don’t think I even want to know how it works, but it works.”
Ford went on to praise the advanced technology that was used to de-age him, saying, “This is the first time I’ve seen it where I believe it.”
Post-production studios have been using 3D effect technology to de-age stars through a process in which they “typically edit a digital image or apply computer-generated imagery (CGI) overlays or touch-ups to the necessary scenes,” according to ReSpeecher.
While the plot for the fifth Indiana Jones movie has yet to be revealed, it’s been confirmed that it is set amidst the space race between the U.S. and former USSR.
“The simple fact is that the moon-landing program was run by a bunch of ex-Nazis. How ‘ex’ they are is the question. And it gets up Indy’s nose,” said co-writer Jeff Butterworth.
The villain in the movie will be played by Mads Mikkelson, who portrays a character inspired by the German rocket scientist Wernher von Braun.
“He’s a man who would like to correct some of the mistakes of the past,” said Mikkelson, who has experience playing villains in movies. “There is something that could make the world a much better place to live in. He would love to get his hands on it. Indiana Jones wants to get his hands on it as well. And so, we have a story.”
The new Indiana Jones movie also stars Pheobe Waller-Bridge, Shaunette Renee Wilson, Toby Jones and Antonio Banderas.

Ford, who hasn’t played Indiana Jones since 2008’s Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull, described the new movie as being “full of adventure, full of laughs, full of real emotion. And it’s complex and it’s sneaky.”
Ford concluded by saying that stepping back into this role was something that he enjoyed doing.
“I just thought it would be nice to see one where Indiana Jones was at the end of his journey,” he said. “If a script came along that I felt gave me a way to extend the character.”
“The shooting of it was tough and long and arduous,” he confessed. “But I’m very happy with the film that we have.”
Indiana Jones 5 is set to come out on June 30, 2023. We can’t wait to find out more about it in the months to come!
