The Hollywood star Valerie Bertinelli has admitted to feeling “mortified” after the former “Friends” actor Matthew Perry claimed in his upcoming memoir that the two of them once made out while her then-husband Eddie Van Halen was passed out next to them.
Bertinelli Is ‘Mortified’
Daily Mail reported that Bertinelli took to TikTok to post a video of herself making embarrassed facial expressions while the new Taylor Swift song “Anti-Hero” played in the background. The former “One Day At A Time” star then facepalms and shakes her head when the lyrics “It’s me / Hi / I’m the problem, it’s me” are sung.
“Anyone else misbehave in their 20’s and early 30’s?” she wrote in the video’s caption. “Are you mortified?”
Perry’s Claim About Bertinelli
In his upcoming memoir “Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing,” Perry wrote about having a huge crush on Bertinelli when they worked together on the television series “Sydney” back in 1990. Though Bertinelli was married to the rocker Eddie Van Halen at the time, Perry claimed that his crush on her became so intense that they ended up making out while her husband was passed out beside them one night.
“I fell madly in love with Valerie Bertinelli, who was clearly in a troubled marriage,” Perry wrote, according to Page Six. “My crush was crushing; not only was she way out of my league, but she was also married to one of the most famous rock stars on the planet, Eddie Van Halen.”
“It is important to point out here that my feelings for Valerie were real,” he continued. “I was completely captivated — I mean, I was obsessed with her and harbored elaborate fantasies about her leaving Eddie Van Halen and living out the rest of her days with me.”

Situation Comes To A Head
Perry went on to say that the situation ultimately came to a head when “one night … I was over at Valerie and Eddie’s house, just hanging out and gazing at Valerie, trying to make her laugh. When you made her laugh, you felt ten feet tall.”
“As the night progressed, it was clear that Eddie had enjoyed the fruits of the vine a little too hard, one more time, and eventually he just passed out, not ten feet away from us, but still,” he recalled. “This was my chance! If you think I didn’t actually have a chance in hell you’d be wrong, dear reader — Valerie and I had a long, elaborate make-out session. It was happening — maybe she felt the same way I did.”
Though Perry confessed his feelings to Bertinelli that night, and he alleges she said she felt the same about him, he added that she acted like nothing happened when they returned to set the next day, and they never spoke of that night again. This broke the heart of Perry, who had “many a tearful night” over Bertinelli.
“The show did very badly, and I was so grateful that four weeks after that fateful night, ‘Sydney’ got canceled, and I didn’t have to see Valerie anymore,” he concluded.

Bertinelli And Perry Are Both Single Now
Bertinelli and Van Halen would go on to divorce in 2007, though they remained close friends until his death in 2020. She is currently in the midst of a bitter divorce from her second husband Tom Vitale, and she’s been open about how difficult this failed second marriage has been for her.
Perry has never been married, and his new memoir features him opening up about his decades-long battle with drug and alcohol addiction.
It had to have come as a massive shock to Bertinelli to have this story resurface all these years later! With both her and Perry being single, perhaps it’s not too late for them to give romance with one another a shot after all.
