Hell In A Cell PPV Nixed, AEW Signs Faction Full-Time

The Hell in a Cell (HIAC) event is a highly popular gimmick pay-per-view (PPV) that first started annually in 2009. According to a report, the yearly show has now been nixed.

As per the Twitter handle WrestleVotes, while speaking with GiveMeSport, it is being reported that Triple H has nixed the HIAC PPVs, moving forward. It is being said that the match stipulation means quite a bit to Trips.

However, he no longer wants to move forward with the annual HIAC events. He doesn’t want to shoehorn HIAC matches each year, just out of obligation.

With that said, the HIAC match itself isn’t completely gone. Sounds like HIAC bouts will now be provided in special storylines when needed.

While many fans love the HIAC matches, the feeling has been that these matches can feel “forced” at times, because of the event. Sounds like moving forward the bouts will be brought into programs for appropriate storytelling.

Hell In A Cell PPV – History

HIAC features a five-sided cube, a large cell structure that is made from steel mesh, and chain-link fencing that is enclosed around the ring. It’s very different from a steel cage match.

In fact, unlike a steel cage, the only way to get out of the Cell and win the match is through the door. The door is locked with a padlock and thick chains.

The only way to win a HIAC match is through a pinfall or submission. Still, back in May 2022 at Judgement Day, HHH did get the three-count on Chris Jericho on top of the cell to win the bout.

The very first WWE Hell in a Cell match took place in October 1997 at Badd Blood: In Your House. The first two participants were The Undertaker versus Shawn Michaels.

Of course, the Heartbreak Kid ended up defeating the Deadman during that bout. However, HIAC has followed the Phenom throughout his career, likely because of his dark gimmick.

The very first HIAC PPV took place in October 2009 and generally was scheduled during the month of Halloween. Seemingly the very last one was this past June.

Fans will likely see a HIAC match at some point, on WWE television or a PPV. Only time will tell.

AEW Signs Faction Full-Time

As per Fightful’s Sean Sapp, AEW has recently locked in three deals for a complete faction. The Kingdom Trio, that is, Mike Bennett, Matt Taven, and Maria Kanellis have all inked AEW contracts.

The stable has just wrapped up its time with Impact Wrestling, after the Bound for Glory event tapings. They dropped their IMPACT Tag Titles.

With that said, this hasn’t aired as of yet. As such, they appeared on AEW TV, while still technically being “IMPACT” Tag Champions.

The Kingdom Trio Is All Elite

According to the report, FTR pushed to get them involved. However, it’s not apparent in what context.

While the Kingdom did not have signed AEW contracts during Bound for Glory, they do at this point in time. It’ll be interesting to see what they do in the company, moving forward.
