Kirk Cameron’s Faith-Based Movie ‘Lifemark’ Gets Extended In Theaters Another Week

Hollywood star Kirk Cameron got some very good news this week when his new faith-based movie Lifemark was extended in theaters for one more week after it had a massively successful opening weekend, landing at number 4 in the United States on opening night!

Lifemark

Lifemark is the latest project made by the faith-based filmmakers Alex and Stephen Kendrick, who have made other movies like War Room, Courageous, and Fireproof. The movie was distributed by Fathom Events, which typically only sees its’ films stay in theaters for one or two nights, so Lifemark’s two-week run is unusual.

“The stories coming out of theaters this weekend are proof that this film is bringing hope to many,” said Alex, who both executive produced and played an onscreen role in the movie.

Based on a true story, Lifemark is about an 18 year-old high school student named David, who is contacted by his birth mother and given the chance to meet her in person. After getting support from his adoptive parents, David sets up a meeting with her, according to Christian Headlines. Check out a trailer for Lifemark in the video below.

Cameron Speaks Out

Cameron, who is best known for his work on the 1980s sitcom “Growing Pains,” plays David’s adopted father. He also served as an executive producer on the project.

“We are thankful this story of celebrating adoption was welcomed with open arms nationwide,” said Cameron. “Despite the odds against a faith release such as this one, we appreciate this audience, who once again demonstrated their desire to see wholesome family entertainment.”

Lifemark Is A Pro-Life Film

Executive producer Stephen Kendrick told CBN News that he believes Lifemark will cause Christians to think more deeply about the issue of abortion.

“I think the pro-life message that is beautifully interwoven into this story is really packaged and a beautiful adoption story,” Stephen said. “And I think the church has an amazing opportunity in our generation to not only support women in crisis pregnancies, but we need to practice what James 1:27 says – that pure religion is to also take care of the widows and the orphans.”

“And having been an adopted father and seeing how amazing that can be and knowing that God’s heart is for the orphan, we’re spiritually adopted when we place our faith in Christ,” he added. “I think the church has an amazing opportunity to be the hands and feet of Jesus and our generation by reaching out and supporting adoption.”

An adoptive father himself, Cameron was ecstatic to share why he’s so passionate about this project.

“I’m passionate about this because I have four adopted children. My wife Chelsea and I, we met and got married on the set of ‘Growing Pains.’ We started this great big family by adopting our kids,” the Christian actor disclosed ahead of the film’s release. “Why did we do that? Well, my wife is herself an adopted child. So, think about this. My wife was one doctor appointment away from not existing.”

“And our four children were also this close to not existing, and if my wife hadn’t been born, neither would our two natural-born children. So all six of our kids and my wife wouldn’t be here if people didn’t value their life while they were in the womb so that they could grow into these beautiful, amazing people that they are,” Cameron concluded.

Lifemark Hit With Audiences And Critics Alike

Lifemark has been a huge hit with audiences, hitting number 4 in gross on its’ first night and number 7 in gross for the entire weekend, grossing an impressive $3 million in its first week.

“We believed in this film so much that we created the opportunity to premiere it in theaters nationwide for a seven-day limited engagement so that audiences have more opportunities to see the film,” said Ray Nutt, CEO of Fathom Events.

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
