Joy Behar Reveals Why She Was ‘Glad’ She Got Fired From ‘The View’

Joy Behar, who was one of the original hosts of the ABC talk show “The View” when it premiered back in 1997, is opening up this week about why she was “glad” to be fired from the show in 2013.

Behar ‘Was Sick Of The Show’

“I was glad to be fired,” Behar, 79, told Time on Wednesday. “I basically was sick of the show at that point for some reason, I don’t even remember why.”

Ramin Setoodeh, who wrote the book “Ladies Who Punch: The Explosive Inside Story of ‘The View,’” said that Behar took the news so well that she offered to leave that day. In contrast, her conservative co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck burst into tears upon hearing that she had been fired.

Backstory: Here’s Why Barbara Walters Fired Joy Behar From ‘The View’

Behar’s current “The View” co-host Sunny Hostin has her own theory as to why she was so okay with being fired.

“She doesn’t hold a grudge,” explained Hostin, 53. “I think because she doesn’t remember what happened the day before. That’s how she’s been able to deal with this show. She just leaves it at the table and then moves on for another day.”

Behar has also said in the past that she’s always ready to offer an apology, even if it is not exactly heartfelt.

“I’ve had to apologize, which I’m happy to do in order to save mine and everybody else’s job. I don’t care. Even if I don’t mean it, I’ll do it,” she told People Magazine last year. “Even if I look like I’m in a hostage takeover, I’ll still do it, because if you don’t do it, you lose your job and everybody else’s.”

Behar’s Comeback

Behar’s firing in 2013 appears to have been a soft one, as she continued to guest host in 2014 and 2015. Once ratings began to plummet, and Donald Trump announced that he was running for president, a new set of producers were brought in, and they wanted Behar back on “The View.”

“I just knew that we needed to get back into the cultural conversation,” said one executive producer who fought for Behar to be brought back. “And I knew she was going to be the person who could actually do that. She’s always been the person who says what the audience is thinking but is afraid to say.”

In her latest interview, Behar also talked about how she’s perceived by viewers, saying that “you have a power when you have that microphone. People don’t like it.”

“They don’t like it that I’m a powerful person on ‘The View,’ saying things that they don’t like, but I’m sorry, that is where I’m at,” she continued. “I’m a powerful person on ‘The View;’ I was a powerful person as a comedian holding a microphone. Too bad.”

Behar Has No Plans To Retire

Though Behar is set to turn 80 in October, she doesn’t seem to have any plans to slow down.

“I’m sort of on extra time now. I don’t have to work. I don’t have to be on television,” she said. “I don’t have to have the microphone. They want to give it to me, I’ll take it.”

As for whether she’ll miss the fame when she does eventually leave “The View,” Behar said, “Not really. You know what they say — the show must go off.”

Behar is known for spewing radical liberal propaganda on a daily basis on “The View.” It’s unfortunate that she has no plans to stop doing this anytime soon, as her retirement will come as good news to conservatives everywhere when it finally happens.

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
