The Academy Award-nominated actress Florence Pugh is speaking out this week to send a brutal message to those who she feels are “terrified” of her nipples after she was photographed in a see-through dress. She has since been defended by the actress Jessica Chastain, who is known for her support of abortion and Planned Parenthood.

Pugh Sounds Off

People Magazine reported that it all started last Friday when the 26-year-old actress wore a see-through sheer gown that bared her chest to the Valentino’s Fall/Winter 2022 Haute Couture runway show in Rome. Afterward, Pugh took to Instagram to say that she knew going in that “there was no way there wouldn’t be a commentary” about her “incredible” Valentino look.

“Whether it be negative or positive, we all knew what we were doing,” Pugh wrote.

“I was excited to wear it, not a wink of me was nervous. I wasn’t before, during or even now after,” she added. “What’s been interesting to watch and witness is just how easy it is for men to totally destroy a woman’s body, publicly, proudly, for everyone to see. You even do it with your job titles and work emails in your bio..?”

‘I’m Fully Aware Of My Breast Size’

“It isn’t the first time and certainly won’t be the last time a woman will hear what’s wrong with her body by a crowd of strangers, what’s worrying is just how vulgar some of you men can be,” Pugh continued. “Thankfully, I’ve come to terms with the intricacies of my body that make me, me. I’m happy with all of the ‘flaws’ that I couldn’t bear to look at when I was 14.”

“So many of you wanted to aggressively let me know how disappointed you were by my ‘tiny tits,’ or how I should be embarrassed by being so ‘flat chested,'” she said. “I’ve lived in my body for a long time. I’m fully aware of my breast size and am not scared of it.”

Not stopping there, Pugh proceeded to double down.

‘Why Are You So Scared Of My Breasts?’

“What’s more concerning is…. Why are you so scared of breasts?” Pugh questioned, going on to say that she is “grateful” to have grown up with “very strong, powerful, curvy women,” and noted that it “has always been my mission in this industry to say ‘f— it and f— that’ whenever anyone expects my body to morph into an opinion of what’s hot or sexually attractive.”

“Grow up. Respect people. Respect bodies,” she concluded. “Respect all women. Respect humans. Life will get a whole lot easier, I promise. And all because of two cute little nipples….”

Jessica Chastain Defends Pugh

Pugh has since been defended by the actress Jessica Chastain, who recently won the Best Actress Oscar for her work in The Eyes Of Tammy Faye.

“Why is it so threatening for some men to realize that women can love our bodies without your permission?” Chastain captioned a photo of Pugh covering her nipples with her fingers.

“We don’t belong to you,” she added.

Chastain Defends Planned Parenthood

Chastain is known for being shamelessly pro-choice, and for promoting Planned Parenthood.

“I’m the first person in my family to not be pregnant when I was 17,” Chastain told The Sunday Times earlier this year. “[Planned Parenthood] had a great impact on my life because it gave me choice.”

“It makes me sick to even say this, but I never think in terms of ‘how do I get more things in this industry?’ I have a rebellious streak because I grew up with a lot of resentment because we didn’t have things, like even food,” she added. “So because I come from that place, I know what it’s like. And it makes me angry. And I don’t [want] anyone else to be denied anything. In terms of a voice, being seen, being acknowledged and valued.”

The feminist and “free the nipple” movements are gaining some serious traction in Hollywood, and it will certainly be interesting to see where they go next.
