Dolly Parton Changes Her Mind On Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Nomination

Back in March, we reported that the country music legend Dolly Parton had tried to refuse a nomination to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Now, however, she’s backtracking, saying that she will accept it after all.

‘I’ll Accept Gracefully’

“I’ll accept gracefully,” she said, according to Fox News. “I’ll say ‘thanks’ and accept that.”

The 76 year-old “Jolene” singer had previously said that she would not accept this honor because she did not feel that she had “earned that right.”

“I do hope that the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame will understand and be willing to consider me again — if I’m ever worthy,” Parton said on March 14. “This has, however, inspired me to put out a hopefully great rock and roll album in the future, which I have always wanted to do.”

Now, however, Parton is singing a different tune.

‘I Never Considered Myself A Rock Artist’

“It was always my belief that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was for people in rock music. I have found out lately it’s not necessarily that,” she said. “But if they can’t go there to be recognized, where can they go? And so I felt like I was taking away from someone that maybe deserved it certainly more than me since I never considered myself a rock artist. But obviously, there’s more to it than that.”

The Hall of Fame previously responded to Parton by saying that it was too late for her to be removed from consideration.

“Dolly’s nomination, along with the other 16 for the Class of 2022, was sent out earlier this month to our 1,100 general ballot voters, the majority of whom are artists themselves, for induction at our ceremony,” the organization said in a statement back in March. “We are in awe of Dolly’s brilliant talent and pioneering spirit and are proud to have nominated her for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.”

Others On The Ballot

Parton is on the ballot for the Hall of Fame along with Duran Duran, Eminem, Devo, Carly Simon, A Tribe Called Quest, Beck, Lionel Richie, Rage Against the Machine, and Pat Benatar. Voting ended last week, and those who are inducted are set to be announced next month.

This entire situation is a reminder of just how down-to-earth Parton is as a human being. She may be a legend who has been famous for decades, but she’s still just as humble as ever, and that’s partly why millions of us love her so very much. Don’t ever change, Dolly!

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
