AEW Double Or Nothing is done. The long night saw several debuts, a heel turn, CM Punk become champion and then there’s the MJF problem.

AEW Double Or Nothing: Tony Khan-MJF

Heading into Double or Nothing, the biggest question involved MJF. He no-showed fan fest and  did not answer any messages from AEW staff.

The opening pay per view match saw Wardlow seemingly squash MJF. Maybe they lasted seven minutes and Wardlow connected with a record ten consecutive power bombs.

Many would call the match a squash and I do not disagree.

MJF reportedly has a lot to think about in regards to his future following a controversial weekend after he no-showed the AEW Fan Fest on Saturday.

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful.com noted MJF said he arrived right before the match started and then immediately left after it ended. There was talk that he booked a ticket to leave Saturday, but that is not confirmed.

From all accounts, this not seem like a work. Basically, MJF has been vocal he will join WWE if AEW does not offer a better deal.

During the Double or Nothing media scrum, Tony Khan did not want to talk about the situation.

“I’m not going to comment on that,” said Khan. “I’ve got a lot of stuff from the pay-per-view that I can comment on, but I’m not going to comment on that.”

Also, MJF has seemingly been pulled from the road for the foreseeable future. We will have to see if cooler heads prevail.

MJF is under contract with AEW until early 2024.

Several AEW Debuts And A Heel Turn

The recently married Andrade El Idolo took part in a backstage segment. He was not happy with his stable.

Although a knock at the door saw former ROH World Champion RUSH appeared. The two have history and decided to work together moving forward.

Former NXT talent Malcolm Bivens debuted as manager of the Baddie Section. He now goes by Stokely Hathaway and many assumed he was AEW bound after exiting WWE.

Finally, Athena (formerly Ember Moon) appeared after Jade Cargill’s win. Already, they are teasing a title match between the pair.

On the heel turn side, Julia Hart joined The House of Black. That should come as no surprise considering she has been teasing a turn to the dark.

CM Punk Become AEW World Champion

In the main event, CM Punk defeated Adam Page to win the AEW World Championship. After the show, he thanked the fans for everything.

Although, he was done yet. So, at the media scrum, he managed to bash WWE and point how AEW has no limits.

”I feel the 10 years, I spent in WWE were wasted because I feel it is management, owner, booker, whoever’s job it is to get the most out of the talent,” said Punk. “I reached the potential that I could’ve given the limitations they constantly put on me.”

“To me, you’re always trying to make the most money and put on the best possible show you can. It felt like 10 years of fighting silly battles and standing on my own d—.”

“I feel here, there’s no limitation put on myself or anybody, the sky’s the limit. So I could feel that I could look.”

Punk is the most expensive talent on the roster and always one of the most popular. Therefore, the title change makes sense, but I enjoyed Page as champion.
