Bruce Willis has made the devastating announcement that he is “stepping away” from acting at the age of 67 after being diagnosed with a serious brain condition known as aphasia.
Willis and his family made this announcement in a statement posted to social media.
“To Bruce’s amazing supporters, as a family we wanted to share that our beloved Bruce has been experiencing some health issues and has recently been diagnosed with aphasia, which is impacting his cognitive abilities,” the statement read, according to Daily Mail. “As a result of this and with much consideration Bruce is stepping away from the career that has meant so much to him.”
“This is a really challenging time for our family and we are so appreciative of your continued love, compassion and support,” the statement continued. “We are moving through this as a strong family unit, and wanted to bring his fans in because we know how much he means to you, as you do to him.”
“As Bruce always says, “Live it up” and together we plan to do just that,” the family concluded.

The National Aphasia Association defines the condition as an impairment of language, taking a major toll on comprehension of speech and a sufferer’s ability to read and write.
It typically comes about after a stroke or some other injury on the brain, like a brain tumor or head trauma. Willis’ family has not elaborated on what led to him developing aphasia.
Willis enjoyed a decades-long career in Hollywood that included starring roles in movies like Die Hard and Pulp Fiction, and in television shows like “Moonlighting.”
He’s been nominated for five Golden Globes (winning one for “Moonlighting”) and three Emmys (winning one for “Moonlighting” and another for his guest role on “Friends”).
He has multiple projects that are already in post-production, including Vendetta, Fortress: Sniper’s Eye and White Elephant.
Tributes have been pouring in for Willis from fans since this announcement was made:
Willis married actress Demi Moore in 1987, going on to have three daughters together. Though they divorced in 2000, they are known to have remained very close friends in the decades since then.
