Sarah Ferguson Says Her Childhood Friend Princess Diana Would Be ‘Proud’ of Her Sons

Princess Diana’s former sister-in-law and good friend Sarah Ferguson says Diana would be “proud” of her sons Prince William and Prince Harry.

It’s been nearly 24 years since Princess Diana was tragically killed in a car crash in Paris, France at the age of 36, but she is still missed by millions of fans all over the world to this day.

Sarah Ferguson Remembers Diana

“She would be very proud of her sons and their wives,” Sarah told People Magazine of Diana. “And she would be just like me, obsessed with her grandchildren. Because that’s what she loved.”

Sarah, who is the mother of Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, went on to say that Diana “adored my girls. She adored the boys. This would be her haven. Her heaven.”

“If she were sitting with me right now, I know she would say, ‘I am so proud of both of my boys and the wonderful wives they have chosen,'” Sarah said of Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle, the wives of her two sons. “Because each has got her own voice.”

Sarah And Diana Go Way Back

Sarah and Diana met when they were teenagers, long before they each married into the British royal family. Ferguson and Prince Andrew got divorced in 1996.

“We were best friends from when she was 14 and I was 15,” said Sarah, who had the affectionate nickname of “Duch” for Diana.

“She taught me so much of public life,” Sarah added. “She was so brave. We used to have the most incredible time together.”

As for rumors that she and Diana had a falling out before the latter’s death in 1997, Sarah said, “We promised each other we would always be together — there was never any daylight between us. But everybody wanted that, because we were so strong together. People want to break something so strong.”

William And Harry Honor Diana

Earlier this month, William and Harry reunited for the unveiling of a statue dedicated to Diana at Kensington Palace. The statue is located in the Sunken Garden, which is said to have been her favorite spot.

“Today, on what would have been our Mother’s 60th birthday, we remember her love, strength and character—qualities that made her a force for good around the world, changing countless lives for the better,” the brothers said at the time in a statement, according to Harper’s Bazaar.

“Every day, we wish she were still with us, and our hope is that this statue will be seen forever as a symbol of her life and her legacy,” they added.

The fact that Diana’s life was cut so short continues to be one of the great tragedies of modern times. She will never be forgotten, and there will never be another like her.

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
