SmackDown In A Nutshell: Swiss Superman Ready For Sunday

We end our wrestling week as always, with SmackDown in a Nutshell. This week, we find out if the Swiss Superman is ready for Sunday.

Yes, this is our go-home show. So is the Swiss Superman ready for his first singles title shot at Backlash on Sunday?

Well, that is the major question to be determined this week.

It’s not the only one, however. If you paid attention last week, or caught up in the seven days since, you’d know that Jimmy Uso has returned.

You would also know that he was not unequivocally standing with his brother and cousin. Seeds of doubt remain, so it’s a safe bet that we will see those continue this week.

Honestly we can expect the rest of the blue brand’s Friday night to set up WrestleMania Backlash.

The biggest question of all, as we lead with: is the Swiss Superman ready for Sunday?

Considering it’s Cesaro’s first solo title shot and arguably his biggest match yet…it’s a fair question.

So let’s get into things and find out, shall we? That mean’s it is time for…

SmackDown In A Nutshell: Swiss Superman Ready For Sunday

Let’s crack open this Nutshell and find out!

Best Match of the night:

Give me the main event, as busy as it was.

Jimmy Uso, in his first action in a long while. Did a solid job in the main event.

Jey and Roman, you knew would be around. Especially Reigns, since they have to hype the blue brand title match.

And of course, Cesaro. I’d argue he was red hot several years back and WWE wasted that chance.

Now, without a live crowd, he’s getting a much deserved, overdue, shot.

To say he’s making the most of it would be an understatement.

Worst match of the night:

I could complain that Nakamura and Corbin was too short. That’s about it.

Star of the Night

I could name any/all of the Superstars in the main event.

But…I won’t.

Nope…for something unexpected…

Natalya and Tamina.

As much as I tend to complain about Tamina, both she and Natalya are legacies and both have worked hard and been with the company quite some time.

To see them win the Women’s Tag Team Championships, and the post-win interview coming off with such elation?

Yep, they earned it. This feels like a situation where a team or Superstar can be elevated by a title, and/or justly rewarded.

Both, in this case (or, at least in my opinion).

Spot of the Night:

I liked seeing Big E drop KO with the Big Ending…much like Kevin Owens would do to anyone with the stunner.

Jobber of the Night:

Shinsuke Nakamura perhaps? Losing to King Corbin, especially in just a few minutes, seems like it’s a fit.

Upset of the Night:

Kinda going with the tag title win here. Not that Tamina and Natalya didn’t earn it…just…unexpected.

Holy Sh** Moment of the Night:

The title change was most unexpected.

Also, while last week I felt Jimmy was falling in line with the family…this week not so much.

Pleasantly surprised by the tension there. Wonder if it actually leads to a short title change.

Botch of the night:

Nothing noteworthy.

Commentary of the night:

I think I like McAfee better than Virk. And Pat can wrestle too.

Noteworthy Moment:

Ponder this for a moment or two…

Bayley was most over as a babyface…I’d say her heel run has been…mixed.

Bianca Belair always felt like she was never fully face or heel. I’ve always felt like she just screams heel though.

With the promos this week, I really feel like we could see her turn at any moment. Could we see a double turn soon, with Bayley becoming a full on face again?

Overall lowlights:

Nothing I feel like complaining about.

Well…one thing.

It hasn’t happened yet…but I worry that Cesaro only got this shot as a token. Or, a throwaway.

Like, WWE knows they won’t put the title on him, but that they will get a good match from him. With the family drama taking over that storyline…Cesaro feels almost superfluous.

Overall highlights:

Hopefully he’s not superfluous though. This Friday night SmackDown, he did not seem to be.

So did we find out if the Superman is ready for Sunday? I think this SmackDown In A Nutshell showed that he is.

I think Cesaro is primed and ready.

Everyone else is too, for that matter.

After the final bell:

Not related to the show, but as we learned Friday evening, ECW legend and hard core icon New Jack died earlier in the day.

The former ECW Tag Team Champion was only 58. He was crazy and extreme and some surely feel he was bad for the sport…but as someone who saw him live in Philly plenty…he was extremely entertaining.

Condolences to his family and friends.

With that said…I think we can say that the Swiss Superman is ready for Sunday.

It was an unexpected but eventful SmackDown In A Nutshell. Will we have a new champ by this time next week?
