Ricky Schroder Loses It On Costco Employee For Turning Him Away For Not Wearing A Mask

“Silver Spoons” actor Ricky Schroder confronted a Costco employee who wouldn’t allow him entrance to the store without a mask. Schroeder shared video of the encounter on Facebook where it quickly went viral.

Schroder believes being forced to wear a mask is ‘medical tyranny.’

After a year of these COVID-19 restrictions, many people agree that it’s time to ditch the masks and social distancing.

Masks Still Required In California

Last week, the CDC lifted some mask recommendations. But not all states followed suit.

California, where Schroeder lives, still requires a mask. So, when the actor went to Costco and attempted to enter sporting his naked face, he couldn’t get into the store.

He was met by an employee named Jason who denied him entrance. Schroeder attempted to inform Jason of the new CDC regulations. It didn’t work.

While Costco is abiding by the new CDC guidelines and allowing vaccinated shoppers admittance, local regulations still trump corporate policy.

Costco CEO, Craig Jelinek, said people can shop mask free in “locations where the state or local jurisdiction does not have a mask mandate.”

Scott Baio pointed out that it’s not a law that masks are required:

Jason, who is a front-end supervisor at the wholesale club, informed Schroder the mask rule was still in effect in California and he couldn’t shop without one.

“In the state of California and the county of Los Angeles… and Costco, there has been no change to our policy,” Jason explains.

“Costco always goes above and beyond when following the law and the mandate in California has not changed,” Jason continues.

Schroder defiantly says, “Oh if they grant us that, our kings? The people in power? You’re going to listen to these people? They’ve destroyed our economy, they’ve destroyed our culture, they’re destroying our state and you’re just going to listen to their rules.”

Ricky Schroder Calls For Costco Boycott

The actor encourages everyone to demand a refund for their Costco membership and boycott the store until the mask mandate is lifted.

“I’m getting my refund, I’m getting my refund from Costco,” Schroder says. “I suggest everyone in California get their refund from Costco. Give up your membership to Costco until they remove this.”

While many people agree with Ricky Schroder’s stand, others felt he went too far.

The employees don’t establish store or government regulations and laws.

To some, badgering Jason for decisions he does not make is akin to kicking the dog at the end of a bad day. 

Anyone who harasses a store or restaurant employee over a mask policy is despicable. These (usually underpaid) workers are doing their job and trying to keep everyone safe. Haranguing them, as actor Ricky Schroeder did at an LA Costco, is the definitive asshole move

The actor addressed this criticism in a follow up video.

He understands Jason doesn’t make these rules. But by confronting him and sharing the video, he is addressing and highlighting the issue and making a point to corporate decision makers.

“Independence from medical tyranny is more important than hurting people’s feelings,” Schroder says in the video below which also addresses vaccination passports.
