In the liberal world of Hollywood, it’s considered risky to one’s career to say anything remotely positive about former President Donald Trump.
That’s why it came as somewhat of a surprise when former “Home Improvement” star Tim Allen said that he “kind of liked” Trump in a new interview.
While appearing on the “WTF with Marc Maron” podcast, the subject of former President Trump came up while Allen was explaining why he has never been a celebrity who goes around preaching to others about politics.
“I literally don’t preach anything,” he said. “I’m not telling anybody else how to live. Once I realized that the last president pissed people off, I kind of liked that. So it was fun to just not say anything, [I] didn’t join into the lynching crowd.”
Allen went on to say that while he considers the Clintons to be personal friends, he did not support Hillary’s 2016 presidential run.
“Bill Clinton has been a very genuinely nice guy to me,” he explained. “When he was president, I sent them Christmas stuff from Disney. I sent all the movies we did. I sent it to Bush too and I sent it to the Obamas. I just didn’t think Hillary should have been president. In the end you go the other direction. I said, ‘It’s nothing personal about it. If you don’t like it then wait til the next election.'”

When it comes down to it, Allen identifies politically as a “fiscal, conservative person with money.”
He admitted that when first started becoming successful and making money, he was disturbed by the crazy amount of taxes he had to pay.
“Once I started making money I had this silent partner that just took almost half of my money and never gave me anything for it and that was the taxes,” Allen said. “I’ve never liked taxes…That’s it, I don’t like it. I work pretty hard for this stuff and I accomplished a lot and I was handicapped by my own errors. It’s all my fault, I get that. But I had this silent partner. I never liked taxes.”
Allen then confirmed that when he said “silent partner,” he meant the government.

Allen has long been one of the few celebrities in Hollywood who has not been afraid to admit that he does not identify as a liberal.
In a 2018 interview with Entertainment Weekly, Allen explained that “politically I’m kind of an anarchist,” adding that he endorsed Republican John Kasich in the 2016 election.
“I’m for responsible government that actually does what we pay them to do,” he said at the time. “I’ve worked different jobs and I’ve had a colorful past and I pay a lot in taxes. I wish we got more for our money. Whatever political party is for more responsible use of our money — that’s all I meant.”
Tim Allen appears to be one of the few celebrities who actually has a good head on his shoulders politically.
