Mom Furious After School Crushes Daughter’s Dream Of Singing National Anthem On Football Field

A furious mother from California is complaining about what she describes as her state’s inconsistent COVID-19 restrictions. Her daughter was banned from singing the national anthem at a high school football game, yet the teams were allowed to play.

Fuming California Mom Speaks Out

Sarah Moreta told Fox News that her 17-year-old daughter is a senior at Mission Viejo High School in Orange County. The student was supposed to sing the national anthem on the football field before a homecoming game last Friday.

However, her daughter was told just hours before she was set to perform that she would not be allowed to sing.

“She was devastated because this is her opportunity to sing in front of the school,” Moreta lamented.

The school also reportedly banned the band and the cheerleading team from being on the field.

While both groups were “cleared” to participate in games this week, the school reversed the decision on the day of the game. They decided not to allow them to participate after all.

‘It’s Just A Joke’

“It’s just a joke,” Moreta said. “These people can go on the football field and they can run around and sweat and yell and jump on each other, but band can’t bang a drum, and children can’t just sing a song by themselves in the middle of the same football field with nobody on it? If it’s about safety, which one’s safer?”

Moreta added that because of COVID-19, her daughter goes to campus twice a week. She sees each of her teachers in person for only about an hour a week. She and her fellow students are on Zoom the rest of the time. And, it has not been easy for them.

“She’s a senior and there are only so many opportunities they have left. There are only so many home games, there’s only so many events, period,” Moreta said of her daughter, who is set to graduate in three months.

This Is A Reminder To Us All

This serves as a reminder that while we’ve all had our lives change change because of this pandemic, nobody has been hit harder than our children.

They have been robbed of so many of the activities and experiences that make being a kid so great.

Singing the national anthem before a homecoming game could have been an unforgettable experience that Moreta’s daughter treasured for the rest of her life.

But, it seems likely now that it will instead never happen. If that doesn’t sum up this past year, I don’t know what does.
