Mike Rowe Dr. Fauci

Like many Americans, Mike Rowe has noticed how often Dr. Fauci keeps changing the goalposts during the COVID-19 pandemic. He points them out in an epic Facebook post that is going viral.

The beloved “Dirty Jobs” host’s thoughts resonate with a lot of people. He values hard work and honesty.

Those can be in short supply from the government. We’ve witnessed a lot of recalculation and manipulation in the past year during the pandemic.

Is Fauci Following The Science?

Rowe addresses his concerns in a Facebook post:

“The traffic on this page over the last few days has been extraordinary, and left me feeling somewhat obligated to respond to over ten thousand comments that arose from a post about the difference between “following the science,” and “following the scientists.”

Science is supposed to be factual. It’s not based on feelings, but Rowe points out that facts appear to be driving Dr. Fauci’s recommendations.

The practical television star then quotes an article by National Review’s Jim Geraghty which points out the CDC’s ever changing guidelines. Fauci is changing the goal posts on herd immunity based upon his “gut reaction” to what people are ready to hear.

Rowe continues:

“In the pandemic’s early days, Dr. Fauci tended to cite the same 60 to 70 percent estimate that most experts did. About a month ago, he began saying “70, 75 percent” in television interviews. And last week, in an interview with CNBC News, he said herd immunity would require, “75, 80, 85 percent” and “75 to 80-plus percent.”

“In a telephone interview the next day, Dr. Fauci acknowledged that he had slowly but deliberately been moving the goalposts. He is doing so, he said, partly based on new science, and partly on his gut feeling that the country is finally ready to hear what he really thinks.”

Fauci Thinks “You Can’t Handle The Truth!”

Mike Rowe draws a comparison between Fauci’s words with those of Jack Nicholson’s in the movie A Few Good Men.

The actor famously yelled at Tom Cruise, “You can’t handle the truth!”

Is this what Fauci thinks of Americans regarding herd immunity and life returning to normal?

Rowe continues in his post:

“Uncomfortable questions, I know, and I’m sorry to pose them here. But we have a long history of putting our heads in the sand when things get uncomfortable, and our leaders know this. And so, in the name of national security, or public safety, or some other version of “for your own good,” our elected officials tell us the truth they think we can handle, and no more. That sucks, but we’ve gotten used to it from our leaders,” Rowe shares on Facebook. “But from our scientists? Since when did the country’s leading epidemiologist go from, “Trust me, I’m following the science,” to “Trust me, I’m following my gut?”

This isn’t the first time Mike Rowe has questioned if we’re truly “following the science.” And, it’s likely not to be his last.

Rowe’s brand of common sense and conviction to back up his thinking continues to be a beacon in the storm for many Americans.
