Alex Trebek’s Daughter Nicky Reveals Why She Hasn’t Been Able To Watch ‘Jeopardy!’ Since Her Dad’s Death

Alex Trebek’s death in November at the age of 80 following a battle with pancreatic cancer was difficult for millions of people from all over the globe.

However, nobody took it harder than his beloved wife and three children, who still miss having him around every day.

Nicky Trebek Speaks Out

While appearing on “CBS This Morning” on Tuesday,  Trebek’s daughter Nicky opened up about his death. She revealed why she hasn’t been able to bring herself to watch “Jeopardy!” since his passing.

“Well, to be honest, I have not watched, I have not watched one, my family hasn’t watched any at all,” she confessed. “… I resigned from the show in November just after he passed before Thanksgiving. To me, it was his show. It was his show and it’s difficult for me to carry on in this show.”

Nicky Honors Her Father’s Legacy

These days, Nicky is more focused on carrying on her father’s legacy than watching his game show.

That’s why she’s putting together a team in honor of her father for the virtual Purple Stride Walk benefiting pancreatic cancer.

“I just want to carry on his legacy, honor his fight,” she said. “It’s really hard to explain…. I think we all still thought he was gonna beat it. It was one of those things where he is invincible and so extraordinary and so many things he does in life and it was just, I’m not sure how to put it into words.”

This comes after Trebek’s son Matthew spoke in an interview with Entertainment Tonight about the one possession of his dad’s that he’d made a point of keeping to remember him. 

“I kept a tie that my mom had given my dad. As far as clothing goes, that was probably the most important item,” he said. “Almost everything from ‘Jeopardy!’ went to The Doe Fund, and now we just have his closet at home here. We’ll still [sorting] through those [items], but for right now, those are kind of staying put.”

Matthew Donates Trebek’s Suits To Charity

Matthew explained that he got the idea to donate his father’s iconic “Jeopardy!” suits to The Doe Fund from a producer on the game show.

“Rocky Schmidt, who was one of the producers on “Jeopardy!” and one of my dad’s very best friends asked, ‘Where should we donate them to?'” Matthew recalled. “I knew The Doe Fund [from] working in Harlem at a restaurant. They have another location that’s not too far away. I think that the work they do, and the people that work for The Doe Fund, are really great, amazing people. So it kind of all made sense.”

The Doe Fund’s mission is to break the cycles of homelessness, incarceration, and recidivism by providing holistic services, housing, and work opportunities.

Alex Trebek would undoubtedly be incredibly proud to see what his kids are doing to honor him and preserve his legacy.
