Morgan Wallen racial slur

Morgan Wallen, who has been arguably the hottest country music star in 2021, was caught on camera saying the N-word over the weekend.

In 2014, Wallen competed on the 6th season of “The Voice” on Team Usher and Team Adam Levine. However, he was eliminated in the playoff rounds.

Wallen Caught Using N-Word

Video footage that was recorded by Wallen’s neighbor’s doorbell shows him dropping the N-word when he returned home from a night out with friends.

The video was reportedly recorded on Sunday night and made public on Tuesday, according to Daily Mail

You can see the video here from TMZ:

Wallen Banned From Major Country Radio Channel

Variety reported that Wallen’s music has already been pulled from Cumulus Media, which is the second biggest radio chain the country.

Cumulus sent out a memo to the program directors of its 400+ stations that was titled: “MORGAN WALLEN — EXTREMELY IMPORTANT.”

The memo read:

“Team, unfortunately country music star Morgan Wallen was captured on video Sunday evening using a racial slur. Effective immediately we request that all of Morgan Wallen’s music be removed from our playlists without exception. More to follow.”

Fans have noticed that the directive did not specify if the ban was temporary or permanent.

“In the wake of recent events, Big Loud Records has made the decision to suspend Morgan Wallen’s recording contract indefinitely. Republic Records fully supports Big Loud’s decision and agrees such behavior will not be tolerated.”

Wallen Apologizes

On Tuesday night, Wallen issued a brief apology to TMZ

He said:

“I’m embarrassed and sorry. I used an unacceptable and inappropriate racial slur that I wish I could take back. There are no excuses to use this type of language, ever. I want to sincerely apologize for using the word. I promise to do better.”

This scandal has already sent shockwaves through the country music world.

“Morgan Wallen appears in virtually every half-hour of music across 4000 stations across America right now. How’d you like to get that message at midnight, that you have to take him out of the music blocks you already set up for Wednesday?” said one country radio figure speaking on condition of anonymity.

“If anybody has other songs they’ve been wanting to hear in the morning, they may get to hear them tomorrow,” the radio figure added.

Country Music Stars Respond

Country music stars are already trying to distance themselves from Wallen on Twitter.

This did not sit well with country singer Maren Morris, who appeared to respond to Ballerini publicly by saying, “It actually IS representative of our town because this isn’t his first ‘scuffle’ and he just demolished a huge streaming record last month regardless.”

“We all know it wasn’t his first time using that word,” Morris added. “We keep them rich and protected at all costs with no recourse.”

CMT is also removing him from their platforms:

This is far from the first scandal that Wallen has been embroiled in recently.

In October, he was caught partying maskless in Alabama. This cost him a gig as the musical guest on “Saturday Night Live.”

Wallen seems to have really done himself in this time. While we don’t condone cancel culture, we also certainly don’t condone using the N-word.

In the end, one simple word may cost Wallen his entire career and millions of dollars. He can’t solely blame cancel culture for it.

He is to blame as well.
