Morgan Wallen

Yesterday, we reported that 27-year-old country music star Morgan Wallen had been banned from the second biggest radio chain in the country after he was caught saying the N-word on camera.

Now, things have gotten even worse for Wallen, as he has been disqualified from the 2021 American Country Music Awards for using the racial slur.

Wallen Disqualified From American Country Music Awards

Entertainment Weekly reported that the ACMs released a statement calling this an “unprecedented situation” and adding that they are committed to “reviewing our awards eligibility and submission process, ensuring our nominees consistently reflect the Academy’s integrity.”

The full statement read:

“The Academy of Country Music will halt Morgan Wallen’s potential involvement and eligibility for this year’s 56th Academy of Country Music Awards cycle. We have made his management team aware of this decision.

The Academy does not condone or support intolerance or behavior that doesn’t align with our commitment and dedication to diversity and inclusion. In the coming weeks, the Academy will expedite the offering of long-planned diversity training resources for our ACM Membership, Board, Staff, and the Country Music artist community, made available through out Diversity + Inclusion Task Force, established in 2018.

As a result of this unprecedented situation, the Academy will be reviewing our awards eligibility and submission process, ensuring our nominees consistently reflect the Academy’s integrity.”

This is undoubtedly a huge blow for Wallen, as it seemed like a sure thing that he would garner multiple nominations.

He had been nominated for new male artist of the year in 2020, and he has arguably been the top country music star so far in 2021.

Wallen Drops N-Word

On Tuesday, footage recorded by a neighbor’s doorbell camera showed the Wallen saying the N-word as he arrived home from a night out with friends on Sunday.

Wallen quickly issued an apology expressing his regret for using this racial slur.

“I’m embarrassed and sorry,” Wallen said. “I used an unacceptable and inappropriate racial slur that I wish I could take back. There are no excuses to use this type of language, ever. I want to sincerely apologize for using the word. I promise to do better.”

Wallen Suspended From Label – Dropped By CMA

The damage, however, was already done. Big Loud Records, Wallen’s label, announced that it would “suspend Morgan Wallen’s recording contract indefinitely.” The Country Music Association has also announced that Wallen’s digital content will be removed from all its platforms.

“We will confer further with out Board of Directors to review additional measures and will continue to examine our industry’s inclusivity efforts,” the CMA added.

It seems that Wallen has become the latest victim of “cancel culture” for the racial slur, and at the time of this writing, his cancellation appears very permanent.

This just goes to show that one simple word really can ruin someone’s life, career, and reputation in a matter of seconds.
